| Annoucement Regarding Hunt Test Conduct - Sunday, April 18, 2010 The APLA Board has decided to put special emphasis on the Unsportsmanlike Conduct portion of the rule book at all 2010 tests. All test officials and participants must be familiar with the entire rule book, including the Unsportsmanlike Conduct section. Test officials, including HT Chair, HT Secretary, Judges and Board Members will document instances of unsportsmanlike conduct and forward them to the APLA Board to be dealt with in accordance with our rule book and bylaws. Also, Unsportsmanlike Conduct applies to handler conduct towards a dog for kicking, striking, otherwise roughly handling a dog. Any questions regarding Unsportsmanlike Conduct or any portion of our rule book can be forwarded to a board member or asked at any Judges/Handlers seminar. |

President, Dale Merritt, called conference call meeting to order at 7:10pm CDT
Present: Dale Merritt, Joe Bubulka, Larry Kimble, Julie Knutson, Steve Watkins, Mike Bachkosky, Wendell Wright, Brice Romero
Absent: Stu Wange
Treasurer Report
$24,500 in bank. Larry also reported that there are still some minor outstanding spring hunt test expenses. There has been income from membership for $10,300 and Hunt Test income at $17,200 from entries. Thus far the hunt test expenses are $14,000. A discussion ensued regarding the accrued funds, and the decision was made to look into the possible purchase of an APLA equipment trailer in which equipment could be safe guarded.
MOTION that the Board accept the Treasurer’s report. Seconded and passed.
Secretary Report
The spring Hunt Tests have been completed and all information has been submitted. Because of the recent loss of secretarial assistance, all of the duties for processing this information have fallen on the Secretary, slowing things down by some weeks. The test results and the premiums for the fall test will show up on the next Newsletter, which will be done with some help from Jeff Ports.
Also to be included in the upcoming Newsletter is the write-up on the Board elections occurring at the end of this year. There are 6 positions opening up, including 3 officers.
Again, given the scope and increasing duties of the position of secretary, the board discussed making the routine duties fall under a position that would not change as secretaries are voted in, keeping the information, data and tasks in one central location. A proposal for this has been presented to the board. Discussion of how to go about creating this position will be carried out by the board.
MOTION made that the Board accepts the Secretary report. Seconded and passed.
OLD BUSINESS
Hunt test Committee Update
The Hunt Test Committee presented all of the submittals for fall tests. All dates and locations were reviewed thoroughly. The Committee recommended approval of 5 tests, filling the weekends prior to opening of hunting season, or close to. A discussion was carried out regarding where the Midwest test would take place, given submittals by a couple of states having submitted tests requests for the spring. The Fri/Sat test in Iowa was not viewed as feasible with a Thursday set up day, requiring unusual travel demands on judges and participants. There was no option given by the applicants for reworking any dates. Additionally, the Committee felt the test this fall should occur in a more southerly location since none had since the past year, and efforts are made to cover all the regions with continued interest. The board was in agreement on this decision and the following schedule was approved:
The fall test schedule is as follows.
Sept 15-16; Larkspur, CO; Sat CPR, APR, & MPR; Sun MPR Sept 22; Monroe, WA; Sat CPR, APR, & MPR Sept 29-30; Girard, KS; Sat CPR & MPR; Sun APR & MPR Oct 6; Rileyville, PA; Sat CPR, APR, & MPR Oct 13-14; Paducah, KY; CPR & MPR; Sun APR & MPR
NEW BUSINESS
Two judges have been added to the approved judges list, Tim Danger for Certification and Scott Dunn for Master.
Motion was made to approve the additions; and was accepted.
The rules committee will reevaluate the certification rules to assure that the criteria for passing and failing dogs is sufficient for the judges to use.
The board discussed using penhip criteria for health clearances on dogs in the classified advertising, but because there is not enough knowledge about how definitive the database is for dogs receiving only penhip evaluations, it was decided to continue to examine the issue.
Next Meeting
Approximately the second week of July, 2007 7 pm CDT
Meeting adjourned at 9:20pm CST.
Respectfully submitted, Julie Knutson Secretary

I'd like to suggest that the APLA purchase a laptop, and that be used for the secretarial assistant's position. This will make it easier to move all the records if/when assistants change, and will form the beginning of a records database for titles, etc, like the old one on the Lime Creek site. Marlana
