Just got back from the 2nd trip to SD for 2006.It was an ...um...."interesting" trip. After a tough work week and little sleep I was on the road at 3:30am fri to get up there. Made it somehow. Got to the hunting on time and Cletis was putting us on them Roosters. Noticed that the van was running rough when cold between fields. this condition seemed to be getting worse- was thinking maybe just some gas issues...but cut the day short with some concern and 7 in the bag. Van DIES in the gas station parking lot next to the hotel when we got out of the fields! Did some trouble shooting and determined it was the fuel pump (in the gas tank). So nothing to do but drink and eat at the bar in the same parking lot as the hotel till the am. Spent the day today dropping/draining a gas tank and replacing the fuel pump (which I had with me as a spare)...Got it done by 3:30pm and went out to hit one field-The old boy found us one more rooster...So it turned out good. Sunday we got a couple more-but could tell that the fields we hit were already hit before us that day...

| Ripping thru those cat tails takes its toll-you can see the bloodied up nose and raw eyes and all the dust on Ol cletis...but we got some nice ones! |

WOW Steve! That sounds like one heck of a hunt/adventure. I'm glad that you made it back okay, and even got some pheasants in while you were at it.
You had a spare fuel pump? Now that's being prepaired.

Got to agree with Jay on this one. I am certainly impressed by the tail on that bird Cletis is holding, but I am most impressed that you were carrying a fuel pump with you. If a repair goes beyond a leatherman and a roll of duct tape, I'm hosed. My doors froze shut once this year at the hotel, thought I was going to have to call a dealer . |
