Well, Hunting Seasons have finally arrived. We went out Friday after supper, for a very quick hunt. Got 1 Ruffed Grouse and 1 Snowshoe Hare. Went out Saturday morning for a fairly short hunt (until it got too hot, about noon) and got 2 Ruffs and one "mountain" Dove. Went out (to the high country) Sunday morning and got 1 Ruff and 1 Blue. Went out this morning (early - before it got too hot) and the wife and I both limited (3 grouse per person)..... Got 5 Ruffs and one juvenile Blue. The Blue only weighed 2+ lbs -- the adults will go up to 4 lbs.
So, for 7 hours of hunting, we harvested 11 Grouse, 1 Rabbit and 1 Dove. We are happy with the start of the season, 'cause it's only going to get better (as soon as it cools off).
All 11 Grouse were scent pointed (from really good distances -- I flushed 2 and let Casey flush the others. The Rabbit was sight pointed and the Dove was a "steady to flush".
I laid today's Grouse out and let Casey decide which one he wanted to pick up for the pic -- of course it was the Blue.
