General bird seasons ended yesterday (27th) here in the PacNW. We got fewer waterfowl than usual, but more upland than usual. Our total take for the year (Upland + Waterfowl) was one less bird than last season. How was yours? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Final day, in the morning, we took 6 Greenies (wife 3 --- me 3). Early in the afternoon, I got two more drakes. For the last 2 hours of the season, we just sat in the blinds and watched the birds, without firing a shot. We figured that if they made it to within 2 hours of closure, that they deserved to live and make some babies.

Our upland season was average.. The Grouse numbers were up both Blue and Ruff and Pheasant numbers were down as usual. Due to increasing development along the Wasatch Front.
Our waterfowl season started off slow due to lack of water and the late flooding of the Refuge along the north end of the GSL..
The late season was fantastic, we had some really great shoots over the potholes and what little open water we could find. We closed the season with a two man limit of Drake Mallards and four Geese with the exception of one bull Can. The Canvasback was the first bird taken that morning otherwise we would have went for a full Drake Mallard shoot..
One Goose was banded and sporting a yellow leg band on the opposite leg. Meaning it was banded on one of the Salt Lake golf courses and re-located as a goosling. Part of an urban goose relocation project.
We took as many birds as last season but we hunted more days overall..
Tiger Mtn Lucky and or last day limit

Nice shootin Doc and Matt and congratulations on the bling Matt! That's back to back bling years for you Dude! Dang, I can hardly believe it’s the end of January and season is closed!! September seems like just yesterday, when we we’re grouse, dove and teal hunting.

We had a wonderful season, though not nearly the number of ducks or doves as last year. Didn't hunt much upland other than a 4 day trip for grouse, which was successful though not a lot of birds bagged. I think Pi and I took 4 or 5 half hour to hour walks for phez and quail, mid day between morning and evening decoy hunts for ducks.

We closed the duck season Sunday on a good note with 5 greenheads and a golden eye. I hunted 46 days in the 07/08 season, all but one were overnight and multiple day hunts. We ended up with 22 dove, 3 blue grouse, 5 phez, 7 quail and 155 ducks, so Pi got in a little bit of work. She made several outstanding retrieves along the way in tough conditions and held up well with a few cuts, scraps and one abscess. I didn’t shoot a goose this year, but didn’t really set up for them either. They’re open through the 17th of Feb, so we’ll probably go up a time or two and see if we can shoot one.
