2BDs, Considering the topic of this post, you may be required to wear "Bronco" orange on this hunt! Rob

HA- I can bring this old Elway doll- it looks a little burnt and seems to have some pin or maybe nail holes in it too but there is still enough there for CHIEF to chew on between fields! Hehehe

Hey guys, I would love to talk to the "lead" of this group going to La Creek (if that is actually happening). I cannot be the lead since I am not planning on going to LaCreek on the opener (I will be in ND during the SD opener). However, I am more than happy to discuss with anyone the strategy of the hunts for which I have been successful in LaCreek. Just send me a private email with your phone number if you are interested in such a discussion.

I have hunted on the opener and Turkey Day week up there. Conditions change, but success is available depending on the mount of snow on the ground. Once again, I await with baited breath...

Sorry for the delay guys, I have been busy with work and school. Any information would be great. I found a guy with a place that reasonable and will guide. He is out of Mitchell. If any one can help I would appricate it. Any get out for doves? I took a limit at Kiowa Creek Gun Club. I was done at 8:30am and shot a box and a half.

Sounds like this could be a fun trip, I would be interested in getting in on this. It has been a few months since Lilly and Zoie got to run around together! Let me know what we come up with.

Oh yeah, I know Zoie would love to see Lilly! To add some more info, I have always heard that later in the season is better for bigger birds. I do not know if that matters I would just like to get up there and see what it is all about. Just so it clear, everyone is welcome, Colorado or not.

Here is something to think about:

We have a Lodge that sleeps 12. The main floor has the kitchen, two living rooms (one with direct TV), two bathrooms, and the porch. Upstairs are four bedrooms. The basement has a clothes washer and dryer and a fooseball table. I have four kennels with runs available. We are located just 3 miles out of Doland SD, where there is also a sporting clays range. I would be your guide, and have a lab if and extra dog would be needed. cost is $175/person/day for at least four people. If theres few than four people we just charge a flat rate of what it would cost for four people. And if you need any other accomodations just let me know and I will do whatever I can to help you out. I will try to get some pictures to you soon. If you have any questions fell free to call me or you can email me also. My cell would probably be easiest to reach me at and that number is (605)460-0075 or my house number is (605)635-6162.
I have some picture too. Let me know guys.

I was orginally thinking about the weekend of Oct. 19th but that the season opener. I thought we could leave Friday evening around 5/6ish and pull in late. That gives enough time to sleep and get to the store for licenses in the morning. What do you guys think? If any one has ideas on hotel or lodges please feel free to give an oppinion. I am going to need some help on this one guys.

Jeff, What is wrong with this for lodging???Isnt it after the first 2 weeks in SD then you can hunt in the morning instead of starting at noon? Kevin

I think it drops to 10am. I think that place sounds good but I wanted others to offer any info they had too. Here is what dates are open at that place:
The statewide season runs Oct. 20th to Jan.6th this year, and we have openings Nov. 1-3,18-21,and Nov.26th - remainder of the season.

The late season is said to have bigger birds with less pressure. I am elk hunting 3rd season (Nov 3 - 9). I was thinking about the week before Thanksgiving or maybe the week after. I think that Nov. 16 - 19 looks good. We will have to find different lodging though. Any thoughts?

Here is the info given to me on another forum. Good info to think about.

"The Chamberlain area has had the best number the last few years and is right on the river. If you like walleye fishing, don't forget your pole. The walleye are really biting during the early part of pheasant season. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask or PM me."

"I hunted Pierre last year...We found plenty of public land to hunt...We hunted mostly to the south of town...I had a great time hunting in Pierre ."

"I hunt the Mitchell area alot (I'm from Mitchell) I stick to a 3 section of Public land just north east of mitchell (about 15 minutes or so) I've always had good luck and it's a big clump of land so even if alot of hunters get onto it I can usually find myself some unwalked area. For west of Mitchell my father and I used to hunt the public land between Plankinton & Whitelake. These public areas get hit really hard during the first part of the season. I've heard of good area hunting around the Woonsocket area. "
