There is some good stuff in there. Would take a series of about 50 more to cover half the stuff there is to learn. Go watch Farmers dogs run at a trial if you can. He usually runs here in Colorado. Should be here in Fort Collins in a couple of weeks. He is a pretty down to earth guy and had the opportunity to hang out with a guy by the name of Rex Carr. If you pay attention, at least in the field trial world, there is a trend as far as some of the best and most successful trainers spending time with Carr. You will most likely find some concept Carr developed in most trainers tool box.

Probably the most important things, in my opinion, are mentioned sort of in passing. Learning to think and train like a dog. The really good trainers never stop learning. The ones that dont continue to learn will never grow outside their box. Success to some, in a degree, can be a trap, producing stunted progress and has done so in more than one trainer in the country?

While there can be some some value learning some concepts from videos or books they will never make you a trainer. Watching Farmer/Lardy/Graham or anyone else work does not make you Farmer/ Lardy or whoever. It is the thousands of hours they have spent in the field with 100's of different dogs. There is a big difference between Knowledge and Wisdom. Anyone can attain knowledge. Few ever aquire Wisdom. Only those that are willing to pay the price will realize it. Your best resourse for teaching you is the one that heels next to you. Learn what he is telling you and you will be in a good place!

My copy just arrived today! Unfortunately I will not be able to get a chance to review it until Thursday night. Ordered mine through the Farmer website, took awhile to get here but it does have the John Hancocks on the cover. I did notice that the day after I ordered mine, Cableas was offering it for a few bucks less...oh well...I doubt those were signed.

I just checked out the website. From a beginner standpoint (amateur, rookie, etc) and having a 6mo.old, would I be better off getting the "Basics" DVD first and buy the "problems and Solutions" DVD Later?

I've used Dobb's book and video's on my last lab. I don't hear his name mentioned anymore.  Has anyone seen the "Basics" DVD? Just don't want to get something that I already have.
