Cajun, Sounds like a typical experience with a young pup and that you may be like all the rest of us were at this stage, expecting too much from your pup. It is easy to do. I am sure that I posted similar concerns when I was training my pup. You will get good advice from the folks on this forum. They have been there done that. Consistency and a game plan is the Key to OB in my opinion. Get a good book about working with a pup if you have not already. (The Pointing Labrador, 10 Minute Retriever, etc) If you stick to your game plan you developed using the book as a guide and dont let the little guy get the best of you, you will be fine. Usually just when you think you have them educated they turn around and educate you a little. Dont give up and dont get frustrated. It is just part of the game.
Dont forget to make sure that the whole family is part of the process. It will never work if the Wife and or Kids do not know what you are expecting and let the pup do its own thing and then you come along and expect him to play by the rules. I think the above is the biggest problem for a lot of new "trainers" and their pups. I was lucky to have a wife that read the books with me and also enforced the rules.
Hope that helps
