What kind of command/signal do some of you guys/gals use to indicate to the dog that he is near the bird on a blind retrieve?

Sometimes when I send him back and his line is good, he runs right by the bird.  Then when I sit him and call him back, he may run by it again.  Is there something that I should do to indicate to him that he is in the area and it is okay to start his search?

Obviously, I try to give him the advantage of "winding" the bird/dokken, but sometimes the scenting conditions are less than ideal i.e. no wind, hot, etc.

Depends on the proximity. If the dog is within 3' - 4', I whistle tweet-TWEET-tweet-TWEET-tweet-TWEET. If the dog is more than 4', I'll SIT and handle.

I don't believe in getting a dog close to a blind and then starting a search. Handle TO the blind.

If your dog isn't picking up the scent, then you should consider getting the dog on some Fish Oil in order to improve olfaction (scenting ability).
