Stu,

I have been to one of her seminars, she did an amazing job (but I know that's not a surprise to anyone). I would very much like to come up and go through another one. Also I would like to see that part of the country. By the way how's your pup doing?

I will go anywhere within 500 miles of Salem, OR! My friends and family look at me like I completely nuts when I talk so divinely about my training mentor that I have never met! It would be great to have a little more of an excuse for my obsessive following of the true dog whisperer.

Yikes, yes, I'm here. We put together our trial/test schedule for this coming year but until I have the APLA dates, I can't make arrangements. I would LOVE to come to the northwest as well, that's where all the fancy PL's are anymore, at least a big nest of them. Even yellow ones! The submittals for apla tests are due Jan 15th, so once they have those, I can get a good idea about that.

For those of you serious about this, like Jay from the far north chigger/no seeum but feelum forever capital of the galaxy, please email me for a more detailed discussion of what is necessary to make it work right. It would be a good time, we had a blast in Kentucky last year. I wish I still got reports from those guys, but we will see Zeke become a Grand Master this year I'm pretty sure!

Thanks!

If any of you are lucky enough to get a chance to go to a Seminar of Julie's, like the one that was put together in KY, by all means GO! Everyone there took away some kind of knowledge that will help them and there dogs. I had a great drive and determination to make my dogs better when I headed back home to Indiana. And Julie makes it so simple that even I can get it when she is done.
I need to go again just to get recharged and get back at it to make something out of my hounds.

Hope you all get a chance attend one of her seminars soon!!

Ed is right on! That KY seminar was excellent, inspiring, and just fun! I was really busy and was staring down a 10 hour drive, yet it was priceless to me and Zeke and it is making all the difference. If Zeke makes his GMPR, much of the knowledge and inspiration will come from Julie's seminar. How about that for a strong statement. I will travel to the skeeter state for another seminar for sure!

Ed, good to see you back on the forum. We have been thinking about you. Did you see the youtube of you and Gunner I posted a long long time ago? If not, here it is. gunner is a nice dog!

Julie, I have another update or progress report for you. In short, the drills and insight I left KY with are working. I will start another thread about the details, but in short, you can't believe how well Zeke is locking up and holding point. As you may remember, Zeke locks up well at first scent, but after 15 or 20 seconds or so, he started thinking about "I can catch that bird," especially if hunters go into flush the bird. I have "out patienced that dog". Over the holidays on a hunting trip, Zeke pointing 13 out of 13 birds, steady to wing and short on each one, and 12 of 13 points were held for at least 1-2 minutes a piece. In the upland fields, he is now running at a level that will pass an a MPR test. how cool is that.

Thanks and I can't wait to go to another seminar!

Julie, I sent you an e-mail from this site...I'll wait until after the tests dates are out and you have time to review your schedule, and send you one through your website. If you are already too booked up this year, then we'll start now for next year! Thanks.

Marlana,

Once you have an idea about the dates, let me know.

I have access to a 350 acre dog training facility here in Fall City. The Carlson Canine Country Club is a great place. Technical ponds, lots of cover, big water, all the birds we would need. Jim there is an awesome guy and would help in any way. You can camp there on private beaches along the Snoqualmie River on site and is a stones throw from Bellevue. it's a 25 minute drive for me to the airport to pick her up and a 40 minute drive to the site. There are local pubs and places to eat as well as a ten minute side trip to the Snoqualmie Falls. Hell, if we really wanted to show Julie a great time, we could put her up at the Salish Lodge overlooking the falls and throw in the spa treatment.

What say you, Julie?   Can't beat that!!  Plus there is a big yellow dog that said he'd even volunteer to protect you as your body guard and test dog.

Count me in!!!!  My vote would be Oregon, but I'll travel a little farther.

So, what kind of grounds are needed for the site?  It's quite poosible that I can get access to some places around Salem or Portland.

Mike...you have to let me in on what you have done with Zeke to get him to where he is today! What tricks are you up to? You must have Andy planting birds for you in some sort of new and secret way to get him to stand his birds like that! Please hurry....I have Julie's new book and I'm sure it is in there somewhere.....but I haven't had a chance to get through it all yet. Don't leave us hanging long...please post soon! What does Andy think of your new addition to the family? Post soon. Thanks!

Whoa Nelly er.. Scott, it won't be 'planted birds' or any tricks now. I imagine the birds aren't planted and he never says a thing, if I had to guess. And it is in the book. It's mostly between Mike and Zeke though, and that's often hard to explain. As a matter of fact, I'd hazard another guess that Mike has learned a great deal of patience, and that's what you're seeing in his post and in his dog. Fantastic to hear Mike, though I would have bet the five dollars I still owe you that you'd get it done.

Marlana, I didn't get an email from you but I have yours so I'll be in touch. Rob kind of worries me because I don't think he cares enough about his dog and I don't want to see how neglected the big yellow dog probably looks.....

Ed, we WANT to see you out in the fray again, with the really good dogs and good job you'd been doing. Hope the house is back up and you're ready to get back in the game!

Does it stop raining in the NW any time in the year? You guys look like you've been washed clean!

Geee...Wizzzz...I've been called alot of things in my 44 years...but never "Nelly". I am into your book Julie, but not far. It is very well written and I am finding it not only informational but also very entertaining. I remember about 4 years ago at my 2nd APLA event. I was running a dog for CPR along with Mike and his dog Zeke. I do remember the day well...it was hot...and very windy! My son Jake and Mikes nephew Andy hit it off and were into about everything. The test dog ran....he didn't find a single bird. I thought Uh-Oh, going to be a tough day for the dogs! A few dogs ran after that and no one dog really stood out....that is until Zeke ran! When he pointed he was a statue, when the shooter walked in Zeke was a statue, when the bird was flushed and shot Zeke was still there standing, and I believe he did this for all three birds. I think Zeke got as close to a score of 50 that day as you could get. He was and is impressive. I think that day I remember him telling me that the gentleman that he was training with taught him to never let his dog catch and or chase birds. Mike worked hard with Zeke....and it sure showed that day! Mike, I hope I have most of that right. Correct me if I'm wrong....but please......don't call me "Nelly"!

I think living up there in Colorado where there is less oxygen is really starting to make you goofy Julie. Yes, even here in Washington it stops raining, or at least for an hour or two. Oh yes, the neglected yellow dog. That poor dog. I feel so bad for him. The poor guy has to sleep in our room on his bed for like ten minutes till I snore my wife into the other room, then he jumps up on the bed that he's NOT to be on. Half a sleep I say off Mallard..... Yeah, that works. Then he has to go goose hunting, duck hunting and I force him to chase around upland birds as punishment. I should probably yell at him now for spralling out in the front room by the fire.... MALLARD!! Bad dog!! Yep.... That worked. Not too worry Julie. Sumers are great here and Mal is in good form.
