I am getting close to purchasing an electronic collar, and have been looking at the Sportdog 400S. What's been everyone's experience with the Sportdog collars?

I really like mine, although I would get the 800 instead of the 400. In the field, you only get about 200 yards out fot he 400. Nice collar, very small, and I really lilke that.

The company has given outstanding service, I mean world class service to me!

My first collar is a SD 400. You can have it!!! It works fine for yard work but in a field, you better be very close to the dog or you are out of luck.

I know of a few people that have these SportDogs and they work very well for them under light use conditions.

I don't know how much the one you are looking at costs but you can get a Dogtra 1600 ($260) or a Tritronics G3 ($240). I have owned the Dogtra for three years and just got the G3 for a two dog setup this spring. I can tell you the Dogtra is one rugged collar. Both have smaller waterproof transmitters and withstand a lot of use.

I BOUGHT THE CAMO 400S ABOUT A YEAR AGO. I ONLY WORKED ABOUT 5-10% OF THE TIME. IT DIDNT MATTER THE COVER YOU HUNTED IN BECAUSE IT DIDNT WORK. WHEN I HAD THE COLLAR IN MY HAND AND THE THE REMOTE IN THE OTHER IT DIDNT WORK. SO I CALLED SPORT DOG UP AND THEY SAID WE HAVE HAD A FEW PROBLEMS WITH THESE COLLARS AND THEY SENT ME A BRAND NEW ONE FREE OF CHARGE WITH A PAID RETURN LABEL SO THAT IT WAS OF NO EXTRA COST TO ME. I ORDERED A NEW TRITRONICS G2 FLYWAY AFTER I GOT SICK OF USING THE 400S AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE TRITRONICS. I LOVED THE SIZE OF THE 400S AND THE PRICE. BUT ITS NOT WORTH IT. THEY ARE PROBLEM PRONE. ALTHOUGH THE NEW ONE THEY SENT ME SEEMS TO WORK A LOT BETTER. I STILL SAY DONT GO WITH THE CHEAPEST OR BECAUSE IT WILL COST YOU IN THE END. TRITRONICS HAS JUST CAME OUT WITH THERE NEW G3 SERIES AND THE REMOTE IS ABOUT THE SAME SIZE AS THE 400 REMOTE. THE TRITRONICS WILL COST YOU A BIT MORE BUT YOU WILL NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS I PROMISE. HOPE I HELPED.
