So tomorrow my little leggy 25 lbs "Casey Chief" turns 16 weeks - We been doing the "walk" as much as possible. Today we took things to a new level. Since the preserve season opened today I got a release of quail and of chuckars to make sure we had bird encounters. Also loaded up with the Winchester AA "Low Noise Low Recoil" shells. Scenting conditions were terrible with pretty much dead wind down where we were and a rapidly rising temp with full sun. On his 1st walk we bumped them eventually and watched them fly. On his 2nd trip out he found the 1st bird and just as I took a pic of him on point that quail flew right at me-Swung but missed with both barrels. We ran over to where it looked like the bird went but could not find it again. on the 2nd bird i did not mess around with the camera and got in there and flushed it and shot it for him. He was looking up at me all excited with a "what just happened" look so I pointed and moved towards the fall and said fetch it up and he ran out ahead of me and found his bird! Ahhh- At that moment you can tell that something happened in his little head. With that success we called it quits- later he kept getting the dead birds out of the box and would not leave them alone...heh heh So today was 1st gun shots and 1st bird for the little guy.
Chief on point before I almost got hit "Kc" - Cletis- |

Hello Steve, congrats on Chief!! We are going soon I hope. Sure is a good sign and I am going to go find a box of those reduced loads. Although I think I am going to draft my youngest daughter into the picture taking department...... or maybe even try and talk Dad into it Craig |
