Alright all you people who buy quail for training purposes...I need to know what I should expect to pay for these little guys and also where and what type of supplier I need to contact. I contacted a couple of local "preserves" and they wanted to charge me $12 a bird!!!! What are the names of some bird suppliers in Colorado (that would deliver to the western slope) and how many birds will they deliver (I would like to start with about 30 bobwhites). I preferably would like these birds to come from Colorado, but I suppose I could look at some from outside the state as well (then I need to the state vet office involved). Any help some of you could offer would be appreciated. Thanks, Rob

Rob:

I have used Tedford Game Birds in Ft. Lupton several times- $4.75 quail. A week ago I got some quail from Tonya Johnson (303-651-9629) (she lives behind Game Birds Unlimited, I-25 and Hwy 66). She has quail for $4 and they are strong flyers. Not sure if either operation would deliver though.

Here is a link to licensed "producers" by county in Colorado.

Down here in San Antonio Diamond H is the main supplier, we have purchased 1000 quail and 600 chuckars for training. If you pre-order in March you pay 1.00 a bird and then the price is pro-rated as the season goes on. Example: In September to October birds will cost about 2.75 to 3.00 per bird. Around the middle of Novemeber the price climbs to about 3.00 to 3.75 per bird. Then in January thru April they go up to about 4.00 per bird. By us ordering birds early and paying a deposit our price locks in at 3.00 a bird. So come time to pick the birds up they cost us 2.00 dollars plus the 1.00 dollar deposit. Also we may pick-up a 100 birds one month and 200 birds the next. This is how its done is South Texas. Hope this helps give you an idea.

Anybody try buying quail online and having them shipped via postal service? If so, how'd it go? Also, what supplier did you use. I've tried to contact a couple online suppliers and all I get is unanswered voicemails and emails.

Any help would be appreciated as I seem to have exhausted most of the local avenues (I can't even seem to get returned phone calls).
