This is the last paragraph of a long post on the 'fuge by a user called Red Devil.  I plan to post it in my "dog stuff" cabinet, so I will read it often.

You will remember, first and foremost, that your alloted time with your dog will be all too short. You must teach your dog and you must be ready at all times for your dog to teach you. Your dog will never learn to speak English, French, double dutch or any other language spoken by man. To communicate with your dog, you must learn to speak dog! You must learn to filter all the advice you might garner and use that which suits your character and your stomach. Some of the advice might seem unpleasant or distasteful- you must learn to have an open mind. You must learn to set your own standards. If your ambition compromises your standards abandon your ambition without regret. Never, ever forget the greatest joy of training is accomplishing a task together. Never forget that the best hunting dog in the whole world lives in your kennel no matter what anybody else thinks.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
