Duke's Dad,

Congrats, major congrats!

Duke is the up and coming (he's there already) studs in the PL world today, one that will truly improve the breed, and he's chocolate. Excellent news that he is clear!

EIC is Exercise Induced Collapse.. the new test that is finallly out will tell if your dog is Clear or a Carrier.. If you plan on breeding your dog (stud or bitch) it will inform puppy buyers that your dog either has EIC or it does not... or its a carrier...

Not much differnt than testing your dog for PRA or CNM...

Thanks for clearing it up.  How old does the dog have to be to have test done?

Hokage,

it is my understanding that pups can be tested while still in the litter. 2-3 weeks or so, it is a blood draw. The turn around on the test is such that if you have a litter that will produce carriers, you can test the pups and place/price pups accordingly. Carriers can be bred to clears, but it is being recommended that carrier puppies be sent to non-breeding homes in an effort to decrease the occurance of the gene. Right now they are saying that 30-40% of labs, at least those with field trial/hunt test pedigrees are carriers. Likely the result of a few very popular sires that were carriers being overbred.
