05/27/2008 12:07 PM Alert

A couple of announcements for anyone coming to the WI test:

We're having a gathering Friday night in Clear Lake at the campground picnic shelter.  Mark Madsen donated a roast hog, which we'll start serving at 6:00.  All you can eat and drink for $10.  The judge's/handler's seminar will start at about 7:00.

Directions to the Campgrounds:

North on 63 from I94 in Baldwin for about 12 miles.  Turn right at the stop sign on 63/64 for 5 miles.  Then turn left to follow 63 north.  As you enter town, the road curves to the right, and you'll see a sign for the Clear Lake campgrounds, turn left at the sign (7th Street).

Boxed Lunches with beverage will be available on the grounds Saturday for $5.

Be sure to give your dogs a shot of Frontline if you haven't already.  You will see ticks at the test, and deer ticks (which carry Lyme Disease) are fairly common in the area.

The grounds are in nice shape, we're looking forward to a great test.

Thanks,

Troy

As long as we don't get lost, the "MM" will be there. I heard that there were only 4 dogs running Master, is that true?

We'll post the running order as soon as we have it.  We're right in the middle of the typical last-minute scramble.  Hopefully we'll have everything figured out tomorrow night so we can print it on Thursday.

I believe we'll see 6 dogs running Master.  The Michigan Mafia will account for 1/2 of the field.

LeRoy won't make it?  We needed somebody to talk about at our "circle of wisdom" - looks like you're it .  Maybe we'll set a picture of you with a can of Coors in an empty chair?

Psst...  Mark, you can't get lost - I've seen your crew make it to Minnesota, Kansas, Kentucky, and Missouri.  Wisconsin is right next door.

What time will the running begin Saturday morning and approximately what time will the running be complete? If by chance we travel all the way Friday evening, where is everyone staying? Looking forward to meeting some of you and some new friendships.

The circle of wisdom, can't wait to join in! Stu, you have to make the pig dinner, your Stu!

Paco, probation or initiation? As director of PR, I will get the MM there on time without getting lost (you'd laugh if you really knew me!).

Some of us are staying at the Super 8 in Baldwin.  There are several Hotels listed on the premium.  If anybody can't find a room, let me know.  There are other hotels in the area, and we'll be able to find a room for you.

We'll start at 8:00AM - maybe even 7:30?  How late it goes depends on how smoothly everything goes, what order we decide to run each series, and how the dogs do.  My guess is that the test goes into the evening.

LeRoy, they'll definitely be Silver Bullets.

Stu, I must be a "glass half full" guy.  Compared to last year's washout, I thought this sounded pretty nice:

"Partly cloudy with a stray thunderstorm.  Highs in the mid 70s and lows in the low 50s.  Wind WNW at 10 mph."  I just hope that stray thunderstorm isn't over my head all day.

Rubber boots aren't a bad idea.  Everyone should plan on bringing a chair, rain gear, and bug spray.

Thanks for all the info,TC,Stuw.---Zeke,it's your initial trip, with us Knuckleheads,so there will be some initiation rituals involved, were waiting for some instruction from the Grand Pooba! You are on double secret probation for 90 days,so we can't talk about that. I have heard that you're a very good driver, and familiar with a Tundra, that's good. You are also our representative for the circle of wisdom, cuz' DF stands for more than Dogfather. Paco

Zeke,
Since your on double secret probation, I need to inform you that you have to supply beverages for all the board members that will be attending the "Circle of Wisdom" and there is going to be 3 for sure that I know of..

Troy,
Your right..I was looking at the glass half empty..its going to be a beautiful day..(keeping my fingers crossed) nothing like the monsoon we had last spring...but I'm still going to be wearing my rubber boots all day and have my rain suit close at hand..

Scent conditions should be good with that 10mph wind...someone just please remind me when I get to the line to breath... I'm already starting to get nervous...

I'm going to put signs out so you can find the test grounds, but it doesn't look like we'll have APLA signs. If you see any signs that say "HUNT TEST", "NAHRA", "Four Points Retriever Club", or "FPRC", follow them.

The grounds are pretty easy to find. They're on the west side of 63, 3 miles south of Clear Lake, WI. It's the only place on the west side of the road that's north of County Q and south of 250th Street.

If you show up tonight, please don't come to the test grounds. The food and Judges/Handlers seminar is tonight at the Clear Lake Picnic Shelter (food at 6:00, seminar at 7:00). Go north into Clear Lake on 63, and turn left on 7th Avenue.

The weather for Saturday still sounds good: A high of 73 and a low of 53 with isolated thunderstorms. Wind should be WNW at 10.

Troy, any chance you have a running list to post up? It would be nice to review ahead of time so I can mark it up with the dogs I'd like to make a "point" to see.

I wish everyone the best of luck and hope to see lots of passes.

Hopefully I can hook up with one of you experienced guys who can explain all that is happening along with proper handling and training. Coming into this as a rookie so will need all the help I can get. Brad

There is a big sign on the left of the road that Says Clear Lake Park (I think it is blue). THat sign is right at the entrance so don't go blowing by it. Follow the road through the park to the end and there is a red pavillion that we will be setting up in. If you need any last minute directions you can get me at 612.708.7810.

That was alot of fun. Troy and Cory with the help of the MNPL Club put on one of the best hunt tests I've been too. You couldn't ask for a better place to hold one either. Larry Wilson the property owner is one great guy...Many thanks go out to all of them, and to the Judges...GREAT JOB EVERYONE. and thank you Mother Nature for holding out till we were done.. I cannt tell you the results of the test because I left before the awards where handed out. I was in CPR flight A which was combined with MPR. We started out with 12 CPR dogs and 6 MPR dogs.. after the water series we took 9 CPR dogs and 4 MPR dogs to the upland. Scent conditions were perfect.. light wind great cover.. This was the first time I ever saw the first 7 CPR dogs find all 3 birds..there were no residuals.. everyone basically started out with a "clean" field.. Dragon did pretty good even with her handler not being up to par. She bumped her first 2 birds, even with a perfect wind. I turned her around at the end of the field with the wind now at our back and she locked up on her 3rd bird in front of the gallery...YIPEEEEEEEEE..(I started breathing again at that point) I'm considering it her natural abilities cuz she hasnt seen any birds but pigeons since last fall.. Unfortunatly the winds died and it got pretty warm about the time the Master dogs had to run. I got to see some fantastic dogs..and meet some great people for the first time. The Michigan Mafia Boys Rock.(As do their dogs) Brad Lhotak ran a Choco that really impressed me and Dan Hove had a couple of really nice dogs also...There were lots of folks that came just to watch and learn.. some are buying pups soon, they'll all be great additions to the APLA in the near future. I'll post some pics later today after I wake up and get some more coffee in me..
