Zeke’s Fun Hunt 2008

Every year, Zeke and I throw a fun hunt test in Northern Michigan. It’s kind of a tune up for the old dogs, and a first test for many newcomers. Last weekend was the 4th annual Zeke’s Fun Hunt 2008.

It was a great event, 25 dogs in total ran. We had 3 flights (started, seasoned, and finished) and had judges for each test. We took pictures, video, handed out ribbons, and even had one heck of a barbeque! It was just a blast, even my daughter showed up for a ribbon and to cheer her dog on, Zeke that is.

Zeke was just on fire in the Finished land test, so I had to upload a video to youtube. I must say, I love running that dog. He is just so enthusiastic about his job and his land blind are really spectacular these days!

Enjoy the video!

Mike,

That's an awesome video! Thanks for sharing it! Sounds like a lot of fun...how does one earn their way into this event?!?

Good luck at the test, it looks like Zeke is ready! I hope to have Maverick ready to run MPR by summer's end (hopefully in time for the fall tests)!

Thanks!!

Zeke is about 65 pounds of muscle & desire, and yes, very fast. Remember, he had the TPLO surgery on his left knee, see what a great surgeon and alot of rehab can do!

How to get invited? Just ask, it's open to anyone who loves retriever training, running dogs, and hunting. It's usually the 2nd weekend in May, and 2009 is right around the corner! See Zeke's website for more details:

We had 2 PLs this year attend: 1) MPR HRCH Gator, a stud dog at Hunter's Rose Kennel and 2) A PL out of Jake X Magic, a Sauk River dog.

Both of them were just great. Gator is solid in everyway and I have video of him on the way. I will let the video of Gator speak for himself, he is a great dog, really like him.

The PL out of Jake X Magic is also a great dog. I was very impressed with his Seasoned Test: great desire, marking, and he showed a strong intelligence that impressed me.

Thanks,

Zeke

Great job with Zeke and great video, thanks for sharing. It's nice to see compliments on Sauk River pups, makes me feel confident with my deposit. Hopefully I can end up with a dog like your Zeke. Nice....

Zeke, thats great to hear. I did tons of research and found what I felt to be some of the best pedigrees in the pointing lab in David's program. Plus he is less than 3 hours from me and offers a reasonable price. Hope to see you at the Wi test and see what this PL craze is all about.

Eagle,

Who is your puppy out of, or what litter are you getting a pup from?

Looking forward to meeting you at Wisconsin.

I placed deposit back in January for the female pick out of Nala (Phoenix/Misty). Their young stud Hawk was to be the sire but they recently lost him to intestinal torsion. He had a great natural hold on point and was bringing a fantastic pedigree of his own to David's program. As it stands now it sounds like the sire will be either a dog out of Duke's True Grit/Koehl's Suzy, or GMPR Snake River Eagle Talon.

Hey Mike,Sorry! I meant to say ,"What a great fun hunt" a few days ago.The whole event was well organized, and went very smoothly.I was really impressed with the attendance, and the set-ups. The food was great, and the dogs had a blast.I watched quite a bit of the seasoned test, wow,a bunch of very good dogs. The coolest thing was the mix of people, very nice job,I know you worked hard to keep it all flowing. Will be great to do the road trip coming up. Thanks for all the kind words and support for my dawg too.You have Zeke the Wonder Dog,I feel maybe I should have named my boy something like The Amazing GatorWe are both pretty lucky me thinks.
