| I'm new to Pointing Labs, here's my story. My fiance is an animal lover and has wanted a dog for several years. Christmas went by, no puppy. Her Birthday is Jan. 4th, no puppy. After deer season I started quail hunting with my dad and one of his friends who owns two pointing whats? I loved hunting over those pointing labs! So with Valentines Day coming I thought I might kill two birds with one stone. I started looking for a yellow male puppy and spoke to many kennels. Several weeks into my search I found a litter at Black Partridge Kennels and spoke to Dave Elbert. I asked all the questions I could think of for several days, Dave was extremely patient with me. Being the skeptical person I am and not knowing any more than I did about a pointing lab I found the APLA website and a list of board members with phone numbers! I called every one of them with one exception, a man by the name of Mike Bachkosky he was from New York and had a mean look in his picture. My being from the south I figured he would be rude so I called every one else first but none of them answered! So biting the bullet I called New York, I spoke to Mike for almost an hour and not only was he nice but very knowledgable. He knew both parents of the litter, answered all my silly questions and confirmed everything Dave at Black Partridge had told me. I called Dave and bought the dog!
His Name is KINGS "DOC" HOLIDAY the son of ELCANAN JUMPIN' JAKE and BPK'S AWESOME ANNABELLE.
I've jumped into this head first, I love the dog! I'm reading the book by the Knutsons. I think Doc read it before I did. He is so instinctive that he's scary. He has a big heart, wants to please. Is very courageous, not stupid, takes calculated risks. I introduced him to birds at 14 weeks, he did not point the first three times, my heart sank! The fourth and fifth times he did, the fifth time he locked so hard I almost died. Now days he points all the time, grass hoppers and stuff. I'm working on his obedience and retrieving. I live on a lake and you can't keep him out of the water.
Needless to say I have a high opinion of my dog. I also hold Black Partridge Kennels, Dave Elbert in high regard. In addition Mr. Mike Bachkosky is I believe a credit to the APLA as well as the state of New York. It's nice to know theres one nice yankee up there!
Thanks for Reading,
