I am attempting to give back. When I was 6, I was diagnosed w/ Leukemia. Fortunately when I was 7, I was told I was in remission, when I was almost 8, I was told I was cured. I know other children who were/are not that lucky. This is what Make-A-Wish is all about. It has come to my attention, via my parents in upstate NY, that there are children that would love to HUNT for their "WISH." How can't I want to help!! I am looking to put together some sort of raffle for a weekend hunt for a child/parent hunt this fall for upland birds/waterfowl combo. I am not too familiar w/ an average weekend hunt, but if the raffle were for 2-people or 4-people + child/parent would people be up to buy a ticket on something like this?? I have also been working on/will be working harder on getting a celebrity of some sort in on the hunt (no promises). Not going to throw names yet, but crossing my fingers, and working all angles. Anyway...1st, looking for someone who guides to let me know about a lodge that may want to help out w/ overall cost of a hunt, 2nd looking for someone who may help me out w/ what would work best (timing/location). 3rd, if anyone is involved at all w/ some sort of hunting TV programing, I think this would be amazing TV!! On top of this, PL's showing their stuff!!! I'd appreciate any and all input, I'm gonna try like hell, but I know I'll need help. I guess I'll wait and see who is interested in helping, huting, and giving back....at least for me it's time......Thank you all. Martin

I'll help, we can use any of the dogs. I know of a late night tv show that I could get in touch with. They are called diamond adventures, a faith based hunting show, they would probably be interested. Heck Pat might even let us use those grounds for it as well as a donation

Sent you a pm on the ducks. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Id be more than happy to help with the dog work or the waterfowl piece of it. Id think we could get a preserve to help out on the upland and possibly the waterfowl part. Ill contact the hunt club I belong to and see what they would be interested in doing.
Id be happy to help with donating shells, butying raffle tickets or whatever.

I think the Make a Wish foundation in their wisdom decided to remove hunting from the things these kids can select from.

A guy you might try to contact is the owner of quail restoration/pheasants restoration. He did a show recently with Benellis american gun dog and they were hunting some land he has set up to test/develop his products and it was crawling with birds. Id think a Benelli american gundog with pointing labs, and providing some good outdoor therapy for sick kids would be an easy sell. I think they said the property was on the ks/ne border.

I think there are enough sportsman in this area who one, love the outdoors and two are thanking God for healthy kids to make one hunt happen really easy if not be able to muster the support to start a nonprofit to hold a couple a year. Possibly and nonprofit offshoot of the APLA. Board of directors ???? Just a thought, but you could count me in.

MBCZECH,
R-R Pheasant Hunting (recently featured on American Hunter on the outdoor channel) is prepared to donate a hunt for your cause. This will be all inclusive to include meals, lodging, hunt, and guns if required. Please send me an email if interested and we can begin planning. I think this is an awesome opportunity to give back and we are excited about the opportunity to participate. You can check out web site at www.r-rpheasanthunting.com. Looking forward to communicating with you.

I have introduced a number of youth to upland hunts. My biggest tip is to have the 'right' equipment for them. Dads always show up with a gun that just won't work. The best gun to have available is the Rossi Youth model, 20ga. Break open single shot. It is stocked short and barrel is short and it is light. I always kept one handy just for kids-but that last father son team I had out decided they had to have that gun so I sold it to them. Then I always have a youth orange vest and youth orange hat to give them too. They 'feel' a lot better when they look the part-and the smile when ya shove that 1st bird in their vest (after your dog brings it back to you of course) is priceless! My standard line is 'you shootem you carry em' - and they dig it. A place with good bird numbers is key. Many of the SD Lodge set ups suplement the population-so that offer above would be a real good one I bet. Gotta be ready with lots of encouragement cuz there is likely to be more misses then hits at 1st...good luck- I hope you follow thru on this one.

OK, lets rename this link now....HUNT-OF-A-LIFETIME. Their address is www.huntofalifetime.org. They do some great stuff. My idea now is as follows. Begin a raffle, there would be a max. # of tickets sold, lets say 200. At $20/ticket, that would give us $4000. With this we raffle the chance to join the above donated hunt (Thank You), about 1200/personx2-days $2400. 2-Shotguns, $800ea. Maybe a pup or two? I am in the process now of emailing different companies that may be interested in jumping on board w/ donations or partial donations. My goal I guess, would be to use this as a stepping stone and possibly as mentioned above do this every year and possibly a couple times a year. Anyone who has any contacts out there, be it apparel, guns, accessories, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Anyone w/ some experience on the best way to go about a raffle like this, please let me know, any and all input is NEEDED!!! Thanks again for your interest and help.

I've done two benifits..
first you need to know the tax laws of the state your having the benifit...some states will try to tax you on the proceeds that you earn.No matter if the cause is a good one or not..
Make sure you have the proper "permits" in hand..(most states raffles are considered gambling and you need a permit for that...do your research...there are orginizations that will lend/help you out with the paper work, for a cut of the proceedes.
My best advice is find a lawyer in the state your planning your benifit that will help you pro quo...its not as simple as having a great idea, and trying to make it work.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions, I would be glad to help, with what I know or have been through..

Once again I stress.. each state and orginization is differnt...you need to do your homework..
