Request for Spring Hunt Test Applications - Tuesday, December 23, 2008
The APLA hunt test committee is calling for spring hunt test applications The application's due date is January 20th. The application form is found under the EVENTS tab, then click on the HUNT TEST tab, and then down load the application form. Complete the form as fully as possible. Don't be concerned with your judges until applications are approved and date is set. Kooly worked his last “Euro” shoot of the season Sunday morning. He was literally very cool with it. My newest digital lens, a Canon EFS 55-250 mm f/4-5.6 IS, arrived last week, and I decided to give it a tough break-in. It is a budget consumer telephoto which makes it “easier” to take into the field.
The conditions during exciting times working a dog make it a challenge to get decent pictures. However, Kooly has done a lot of “Euros” and handles almost in an automatic mode. Running a blind or a multiple marks during rapid fire shotgun blasts and continuous diversion birds is not a problem. He “plays” with kind of a “chaotic calmness”.
Getting past the differences in philosophical opinions about “Euro” shoots, there is no escaping the fact that Kooly is in the pure heavenly retriever zone. Looking at the pictures one can see the club has gone out of their way to make dog and handler safety a major issue. The blinds, along with their locations, have been thoroughly modified to meet the concerns of the “pickers. 
The lens did a decent job considering I used a “spray and pray” method. After processing 330 photos, these 79 were the best. The “streaming” of the photos has to be in low resolution, but hopefully the mood comes across. The hardest part was selecting the “right” music. If you’ve ever “paid” to do one of these…….the name of the song seemed almost fitting. At least it sounds like he is saying "money".
