IMO that’s the type of verbiage PL enthusiast should use when touting the PL’s to the world….Not “PL’s school all pointing breeds in National Bird Dog Challenge” or “PL’s Kick Butt in NBDC.

I’m sorry if this post comes of negative but something I feel needs to be pointed out. The traditional pointer enthusiast are having a hard enough time accepting PL and many don’t. Boasts with that type of verbiage posted on multiple forums only fuels the fire against PL’s. If we take a humble and cordial approach many will come to accept them. If we continue to boast they are better than any pointing dog out there it will continue to have a negative affect on a dog I love and admire.

I agree Randy...

I'm with you, Trout Bum! Part of good sportsmanship is winning gracefully. Let the dogs prove they can do the work, and be proud but humble...you can make whatever positive comments you like-leave the judgements to the judges...

Don't read more into the post than was meant to be.

A) this is a PL site
B) I was handing out a word of congratulations to Dave Elbert and his dogs.
C) I did not post this on any other site to brag or offend anyone.
D) I simply wanted to get the attention of those on this site that placing  1st, 3rd and 6th is pretty much a butt kicking.
E) if that title offended anyone on this site - I apologize

If your favorite college basketball team or any other competitive sport took 1st, 3rd and 6th in any division you would agree that your team put the wood to everyone.

Once again - don't over analyze - let a compliment to Dave be what it is - don't hijack the post  - just let it be.

That is why this forum is so dead - people try to hand a compliment to a guy and his dogs on a PL site and the replies range from suggesting that he didn't run in the pointing division to suggesting that the compliment wasn't written appropriately.

I will probably be back to offer praise to one of my friends in the next 10-12 months since it is the same old crap on this site.

later!

p.s. - Great job again Dave - I know you have worked very hard and spent lots of dollars entering these events - you and your dogs deserve all the praise.

So you would word it like this.... Way to go doggys for beating the other doggys!!! Then nobody is offended!!! After all most of the people with pointers on the other sites are so very charming when it comes to labs and pointing labs! But to each his own!! And if somebody cant voice there excitement or 1st amendment right on a public forum (pointing lab to boot)without offending someboby I see no problem with that!! I havent seen one bad thing said about pointers or anybody that owns them! Sounds alittle nit-picky to me.. Kevin

What about "PL wins Pointing Division in National Bird Dog Challenge"? Nothing at all wrong with that! I am all about Congratulations for a job well done. The spin-off discussion was about getting respect in the pointing world for the PL as a pointing dog-which "PL schools all pointing breeds" is not going to do. If your PL came in second to an EP, would you prefer the other handler to say "PL-ha! My EP showed him how it's done" or "We beat a talented field-nice work by the other dogs". Not rocket science, gentlemen! Practice Good Sportsmanship!

I think that would be a great to post it Hooli. And yes, the spin was to gain the well deserved respect of PL’s in the pointing dog world. I knew my post would come off negative to some, it wasn’t intended that way at all and certainly not directed at you Bosko or the dogs.

It was posted by another on the SSBB and the reaction is extremely ugly. The reason it’s ugly is because of the way it was posted and other PL boasts on different threads. All because of the way it way worded and how it comes across. It makes me ill and why I spoke up here…..I could have buried my head in the sand and hope it would go away but it won’t if it continues down the “my breed of dog is better than your breed of dog” path.

Congratulations Dave, you represented the PL’s very well at the NBDC. I hope you continue and have the opportunity to run in the national event.

I was not offended by the original post, I just simply agree with the "let your dog's work do the talking" approach. I see nothing wrong with sharing the news. Stating the dog's 1st, 3rd and 5th placement in an all breed pointing division says enough. No need for the extra dig, IMHO. Great job Dave!

The post on the SSBB on anything to do with PLs is always ugly Trout. unfortunatly you are not going to change everybodys mind on a PL! and thats OK, and there is nothing in my post to you that is in any way negitive towards your post!! As for Sportsmanship,If I said that Kansas is the king in B-ball somebody is bound to be offended! But I am not playing the game! They are!! But we a rooting for them in a fun way! Why is it any different when it is a PL against a Pointer! Both dogs are awesome but this time the PL won!! Wahoooooo! So were is the bad sportsmanship? the PLs kicked butt!! There is no degrading the other dogs that ran! This is just a neat celebration without the Beer!! Or maybe with it!!

I Annie completed the run in ~3:39 if I remember right.

That's INCREDIBLE ! ! ! When Casey came in 3rd in the WA State BDC, his time (12 acres - 3 chukars) was 11:11 - we tied a GSP in raw score, but we beat the GSP in time, so that put us into 3rd.

That was my thread. I've been on that site for a long time, and I can assure you that it would have turned ugly just as fast and just as vehemently regardless of what I titled the thread. (I've started threads in the past with extremely non-bragadocious titles, and the result is always the same --- Thus, if "real" pointer people are going to go crazy, I might as well title it anything I want. . . . And the result will be the same regardless. . .

Doc:

I read that thread you started on the SSBB. You sure got the snobs fired up. I mean.... you sure upset those fine gentlemen who constanty refer to our dogs as garbage and who's unattainable "respect" some seem to need. More power to Mr. Elbert and his butt-kickers.

I don't consider TRUTH to be bragging.
Many of the folks on SSBB get their panties in a wad when a PL does well.
Many of them brag about their dogs or their breed. It's a "versatile/pointer" forum, and PL's are versatile and point. . . . . . Actually, it's kind of fun to guess how many posts will be made before it gets "nasty".
PL folks never start the name calling, but we do defend ourselves and our choice of dog.

Well just came home from the NAGDA Nationals and watched the open pointing. A EP won it! And had a very nice run in the finals, The dog was impressive, Dale Merritt finished 2nd, 3rd and forth with PLs! And if you dont think these Pointer guys dont have any respect for these PLs, Think Again!! I talked to alot of them with some very nice pointers love the way the PLs work and they would say what gives the PLs the advantage is they work alittle slower than the pointers and they dont miss the scent like some of the pointers!! And while we were watching Reigny in the finals they would say there is a solid Point Oh there is another one!! Had fun.... Kevin
