This will be televised on the Outdoor Channel -- I have no idea when though.
Do you know what their "times" were?

Congrats to Dave.
Solid finish by Dave's dogs, but saying the PLs schooled all the "other" pointing breeds might be a little bit of a streach....
But to each his/her own..... Pat

I agree Pat....
I have no doubt that Dave was awesome..... But it was in the flushing division I believe. I have a buddy that was there and in the pointing division the top five were pointing dogs.
Scott Kusel and Jade a GWP
Mark Sweeny and Legacy a GSP
Bernie Berkonholtz and Reggie a GSP
RJ Tuene and Rebel a Visla
And Don Clark and Deuce a GSP
There were no labs in the final on the pointing side.
And I wouldn't look for it to be on the Outdoor Channel..... Only the Worlds will be on TV. No Outdoor Channel cameras were there.

Check that!!......
I guess there was some miss printing. So I think he did win the "Masters Division".
I guess there is a Master Division as far as age goes?? Who knew??
My buddy wrote me and said there was a miss print somewhere on the final stats.
So,...... I stand corrected. Either way.... Dave did a hell of a job, no matter what division or hold old you are.
He has the bragging rights and deserves them.... Plus, he also has the hardware!! |

Maybe it's just because I'm a little bit goofy, but why would someone run a PL in the Flushing Division?

I am not real clear on all the divisions myself - maybe Gary Guth or someone can explain -
But - what I do know is that Dave was in the pointing division and that is all he has ever run in to my knowlege.
and I also know it was in master division -
once again - i don't fully understand all the divisions but, he was in the singles master pointing division and took 1st, 3rd and 6th.
p.s. - most of these guys including Dave don't do it for the money - you pay much more than you make.
p.s.s - Dave said he could not run the flushing division because his dogs won't flush a bird since they point. as i understand it - the dog has to flush the bird.

I was at the event taking pictures for a couple of friends (Dave included) and watched Dave and his dogs run on Sunday. Dave did run in the Masters division and Annie did take first on the last run of the day. Her run bumped Jack down to third and Nicki down to sixth place. Annie completed the run in ~3:39 if I remember right and Dave did his part and shot well with no misses so it was a clean run.
If you compare times, I would say the pointing labs represented themselves very well, the format for the pointing divisions in Top Gun and Master divisions are the same, so you can compare times between the two. The Masters is just a division for handlers over 50 years of age.
The Nationals is not televised but the World Championships, which is in the fall, will be aired on T.V. |

Several pointing labs qualified and participated in the National event. I watched Dukes True Grit, Tomacon's Little Miss Mandy and several other dogs run on Sunday. It is a different game but is fun to watch and a congratulations should be extended to the dogs that qualified and participated. Lets try and keep the negative comments out of this forum and not jump on poster for starting positive post.
Several other labs that do not run in the pointing lab circles were pretty impressive, even a standard poodle and a good run in the amatuer flushing division. I planted some chukar for a chocolate male that pointed as staunch as any other pointing lab I have seen. |

Congratulations are in order for sure, post up some of those pics TP if you will. How many dogs were run in the Master and what were the different breeds?
If you compare times, I would say the pointing labs represented themselves very well. IMO that’s the type of verbiage PL enthusiast should use when touting the PL’s to the world….Not “PL’s school all pointing breeds in National Bird Dog Challenge” or “PL’s Kick Butt in NBDC.
I’m sorry if this post comes of negative but something I feel needs to be pointed out. The traditional pointer enthusiast are having a hard enough time accepting PL and many don’t. Boasts with that type of verbiage posted on multiple forums only fuels the fire against PL’s. If we take a humble and cordial approach many will come to accept them. If we continue to boast they are better than any pointing dog out there it will continue to have a negative affect on a dog I love and admire.
