I have been feeding my PL Purina Pro Plan and she has been itching and scratching a lot as of late. The Vet told me it may be allergies. Any suggestions as to a good dog food? My dog had been on Diamond and did ok but just would not eat enough of it. any suggestions would be great!

First, you need to know the allergin.
The most common is wheat (not uncommon), followed by corn (much less common).

You could try the ProPLan formula for sensitive skin and stomachs. Based on Salmon and I think it has no corn or wheat

Contrary to popular belief, food allergies are much less common than allergies to environmental things-like people getting hayfever. Not sure what part of the country you live in, or how old your dog is and if this is the first time she is itching-but it could be pollen...

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

03/29/2008 9:49 AM Alert

My friend went the route of removing food groups from the food choices. He picked the brands that he would purchase in the future ( price, availability, protein precentages, etc.) and would give it a try.

He found out it was corn so he bought only corn free food.

THis can get expensive buying different bags and as said earlier, it may be something besides the food.

Good luck.
