Well are rooms are booked for the second weekend Phez hunting in South Dakota, I hope last winter wasnt to bad on them, but I do here there was some good winter kill up there especially to the north?

Last time we stayed in Winner. This year we are staying in Presho.

I am taking 4 dogs, and lots of vet wrap. Dogs feet got pretty red and sore last year from the sharp grass,

Man I cant wait,!!

We booked a long Halloween weekend last year on out way home from that weekend in which we did fairly well.  My buddy just called and confirmed our dates yesterday so October is starting to get filled.  We will be in north central SD Thurs-Sun..

First weekend of October will be duck opener in SW MN.  The weekend before Halloween is set for north central MN duck/grouse hunting.  Then off to SD!!!  More weekends to be planned soon!

Kevin, start giving each of your dogs a 50 mg zinc tablet every day in their food right now-it will help with the sore pads!
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I can vouch for the zinc but never thought of using it as a preventative. In a couple of instances where my dogs have had cut pads or tissue removed from a pad the zinc really seemed to accelerate healing (beyond my vets expectations).

Hope you have a great hunt.

Hey Kevin,
It just so happens that Mesa and I, along with a band of knukleheads from Summit County will be up in N. Dakota from the 18th till the 23rd. Might be a little tough to pull your trip off to S Dakota. But as the time gets closer and if somebody backs out, let me know. I can always block and clean birds for ya...lol. BTW we have a couple of spots open on our trip if you or any one else wants to try N.D. one week then jump right into S.D the next week.

Do you guys DIY out there or are you on $/gun ground?

I think that overlaps when I'm gone to the grand but if it does not I'd certainly do what I could to get you onto some *other* ground

You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a ditch parrot this spring...  The winter was fine but we have had a LOT of rain and localized hail - those 2 factors are my primary concern for the youngens this year...   Numbers are reported to be up (unofficial) so we'll wait for the GF&P's drive by counting to hear for sure - nonetheless there will be a limit waiting for you for sure...

You wouldn't have to twist my arm to hard...It was a ton of fun last year with just the five of us. Watching all those labs cover a field and finding birds was a treat. I'm sure I will see you at fall hunt test at the Haystack Ranch...Mesa will be running in the APR test...We can talk some more then about some hunting trips this fall
