There are none yet but a few guys are trying to start things rolling.  Get your contact information into the membership directory for the southwest.  Don't be afraid to give one of those folks listed a call.  I know that some are really wanting to hear from others with the same interest.  I am sure that some would be pleased to take you on a hunt if it can be arranged.  Click on the forum button above and you'll find it in the members only section.

There are several pointing lab owners in CA but they are spread out a bit geographically.  It is a big state.  We need them to find each other.  Until they find enough people interested to get an APLA event together, I would suggest that you try to get together with other PL owners at other venues.  The HRC, AKC, and NAHRA all run hunt tests in CA.  An important first step to getting pointing labs established anywhere is building friendships between those brave souls that have chosen to take the road less traveled.

Even more important is for those folks that have good pointing labs to hunt them! (hmmm, something about pots and kettles applies here).  Take people with you.  Seeing is believing and once people have seen, some will want a PL pup themselves.  That is the key to generate the numbers of PL's that it takes to get an event going.

Don't be afraid to get a pointing lab pup even if it takes a while to get PL events going in CA.  These dogs are tremendously fun to hunt with.  Dogs don't know anything about titles, they only want to hunt!

I know there are plenty of PL owners in CA. As said before, check the SW registry make contacts and see who is interested. I can assume a test wont happen out there unless someone out there does the leg work and gets things started. Tests work if there are enough entries I know we have sold a few pups out there if anyone is seriously working on putting together a CA training group or a test I'll make some contacts.

Ducky911,

I am located in So. Ca. and own a couple PL myself. I would be glad to chat with you or any other person wanting to see a PL work. Just PM me and we could set something up. There is also a couple of other guys in my area that have PL's and a few looking to get started. Like yourself we need to communicate with more CA members to start educating this region on PL's..

Welcome Ducky!   We are just north of Portland, OR but spend quite a bit of time in California.    We have about 6 pups we've sold to clients in California the past few years and most of them have interest in participating in a HT now that they've got the dogs trained up.  I know quite a few others who have sold pups in California or like Shawn (CAHarrison) live in California and have PL's.  We even thought about putting in for a test this spring but time, work and too many other things going on caught up to us.    If there is real interest in a California test and we can get enough people to say they'll attend I'll be happy to get the ball rolling for a fall test.  We'll need grounds, helpers, equipment, etc.    SO OPEN INVITATION - who wants a California test ????    Oregon people?  The Washington group?  Anyone willing to come over from Idaho??  I may have a couple of options for grounds in the Ione or Modesto area, I just need some firm idea of willing participants to get this off the ground.   LET'S GO WEST COAST APLA !!!!
