I set a kennel up at the lake this year since I spend many weekends down there.  Any suggestions for a floor surface other than concrete?  I'm thinking about a 4x4 frame with either pea gravel or large mulch over a weed fabric.

I wouldnt put anything in there that the dog could get bored and swallow or rip it to threads.

Have seen x-rays with a belly full of rocks as well as other strange things. Larry Kimble can shed some light on this dark subject.

The best surface for cleaning is cement. Other surfaces can harber and spawn all kinds of nasty stuff when it cant be properly cleaned and disenfected.
You can try 3/4 plywood treated with an oil base paint and a slight amount of non skid in the paint. the problem there is rodents snakes ect can get under there. If you use wood be sure to make it so you can lift it up to clean underneath.
Be all you can be.

Running and Tractor Supply type stores sell inch thick cattle mats. Most of the time they come in 4X6 ft sheets and cost under 50 bucks a sheet. I have used them as kennel floors in the past for lengths of time as much as 2 years and have never had an issue. They clean off very easily and keep well.

The rear 2/3 of our kennel run is "natural" (for peeing and pooping) -- the front 1/3 is concrete that's covered with short nap AstroTurf.
