Recent Michigan cold snap helped us out quite a bit this weekend.  Normally we see mostly woodies and teal this early but the weather forced quite a few mallards down our way - even had a double-banded mallard.  We made sure the shooter knew that this had to be the easiest shot in the world with the bird carrying all that hardware around.

The attached pic was from the post-sunrise re-group.  The brown boy had a lot of work in the swamp.  Unfortunately resulting in quite a few cuts and a sprained tail.  He is at home recouperating before we head to SD on Friday.

Bruce- Great to see that GMPR out there doing the real thing! Good luck in SD. That would be a great opener! Hope the weather stays cool.

Sweet!!! That looks like a very nice start to a season. I'm sure that the brown dog liked it a lot better than those thrown ducks, even if he did get hurt.

Jay - I would think this weather is starting to push some early birds down your way.

SD is calling for snow and 40's this weekend, then low 50's through the week. Much better than the 80 degree temps we had last year in late October.

I'm taking Diesel out with us to SD and we have an entire section of CRP with strip corn to hunt the first few days. Should be fun to watch the boys do their thing.

I sure hope so! We normally don't get too many birds until the last week of season, the weather just never sends them down.

As far as SD....you lucky ##@%$%#@!!!!!
