Three Day January Hunt in Nebraska... 3 limits!

With this, our first trip to NE, Bear has now hunted, pointed and retrieved pheas in CO, ND, SD, KS, IN (pres) and NE (and UT and MO if we count hunt test birds).

Bear points a group of 6 hens. He had 4 points out of this group of birds, as they did not all flush at once. He repositioned about 10 yards inbetween flushes. No roosters, but still fun to watch!

Day one birds... Bear says.."Hey, there goes another one!!"

Day two birds...

Day three birds...

One of those very special weekends to remember!

A close up of the drake mallard Taz retrieved back in November....they do have a wide range of color.

Everyone has been putting up some great pics and some great looking dogs!

Stealthbomber, you are taking it to a whole different level and I envy your talent. That close up of the dog and the boat was framed so nicely, it appeared at first glance to be a painting. As for the drake mallard photo, I have sat here for several fruitless minutes trying to articulate my thoughts, but have given up. Art has an ineffable nature. Maybe that drake just reminded me, the numerous times in the field that i have stared at the palate of color displayed by a teal, pheasant, or brook trout and wondered: "How, on Earth, can these things be so beautiful? And, what does it mean?" Keep them coming, man.

Gchase...thanks for the compliments. But I have to give some credit here to my friend Mike Kleinwolterink whom I have hunted with for a few years now. The drake mallard closeup I did take myself with my Canon Rebel T2i digital....it's a very forgiving camera...for dummies like me. Taz and the boat was done by Mike....the only thing I did was help him stage the positioning and distance and what I wanted in the frame. He also took the flying tornado of ducks and played with the pic with the old barn in the background. He works hard at his photography and it shows. Ducks do have a magical color spectrum with each species having all there own display of colors. Very pleasing to the eye.

Yep, thats the one you used in MI. Basically the only gun I used this year for upland. I did score a set of Carleson light modified chokes for it on clearance at Cabelas. Those seem to have worked out pretty well.
