Starting it off with our dove hunt.

We open with doves and early goose on 9/1.  My schedule for the weekend and Thurs did not allow a morning hunt so I braved the afternoon sauna for some doves.  Got in the field at 4:30 CT in 99degree heat with no cloud cover.  Found a green umbrella in my truck to give Cruz some shade in the field.  Luckily flights were pretty slow in the heat so he never had over one or two close together until the heat "broke" (to the high 80's) at dusk and we finished our limit pretty quickly.  Poor dog was gassed but we only lost one and that was poorly shot (by me) and sailed off over a thick ditch.  I did not even send him, figured he had been through enough after 14 in that heat.  This was the best pic I could get without his tongue actually hanging on the ground.  Geese Monday morning, suppose to be cooler.

Hit the dove pond Thursday night here in Kansas. Was 103 degrees when we started. It was a perfect storm, no rain here recently, hot temps, and good dove numbers. We had four guys and four limits in about an hour. Great hunt. My older lab was dead tired by the time we were done.

We have very few Doves where we live, and those that we do have generally leave very early -- but with the warm (hot) weather, there are still a few around.
Went out for a quick hunt after work today and got seven of the little rascals. (There are 3 on the left)
Our Temps were in the upper 70's.

Nami is running Tucker in an AKC Test today, but tomorrow and Monday we will hit the mountains for some Grouse.

It's been unseasonabley warm out here in ID.  Finally, a few REAL ducks started to show up.  Not a whole lot, but enough to get the party started!

Wow Greg, that is getting the party started. IN duck opener, not bad for us - lots of woodies, a few teal and mallards.  My two boys were the only dogs for 7 hunters so they had a pretty fun weekend.

Left the dogs home for this one. Took a day and a half, but was worth the wait.

Hey Bruce, Looks like your boys did have a fun time!  My son would gladly trade a daily limit of greenheads for one nice woodie drake to put on the wall!  But, sadly, his old man only likes to chase one kind of duck!  We have fresh birds coming in that are very workable.  We don't shoot hens, but literally had at least 10 singles/doubles,triples of hens land and hang out in the dekes yesterday.  Still managed to scratch out a few limits of green all inside 30 yards.

Looks like the PL'ers are also good hunters...
Nice pics.

Link to one of my hunt pics day after Thanksgiving.
I spread the ashes of my first two PL dogs under the blank sign.
Can still see their bone fragments.
Figured they'd like to see some roosters again.

Good to see people getting birds given the early reports this year. Hopefully we will see a cooperative winter and spring this year so the birds can rebound in some of these areas.

Martin and Doug - Nice bucks, guys.

Vic, were you hunting mainly grassland tracts?
