Ive seen around 60,000 roughly so far between Southern Idaho and Northern Utah. We got in a group of about 10000 last sat. 4 gunners and we had 25 birds in about 6 seconds. The rest of the birds where sky high. They dropped like a tornado, it was awesome to watch. I tried to post a pic but it tells me and error has occured. So here is a link instead:

Have not seen anything in Southeast South Dakota yet. From everything I have heard from guides and on other forums that the birds are starting to get on the move from Missouri and starting to trickle into Southwest Iowa and through Nebraska.

It has been raining pretty steady down here for the past 2 days and there are quite a few bare spots in fields now and plenty of sheet water from the rain and snow melt off. New weather report is that the rain is going to turn to snow this morning and we could get up to 2" of new snow again. This could slow up the birds a little bit but I think we will start to see them in the area by the end of the weekend or first part of next week. I do know that next week they are calling for mid 40 degree temps all week.

We pushed our hunt back a week, we were planning on going out this weekend in the Yankton, SD area but think that we will have better luck with more juvies the following weekend. If we get those warm temps I think they will be starting to push into North Dakota by the following weekend. If it is going to be as warm as they are calling for next week we might actually be up in North Eastern South Dakota hunting.

Its a weird migration this year and seems to be about 2 weeks + behind schedule. So I think once they get moving they are going to be gone in a hurry.
Hopefully we can find enough of a window to blast some of them.

They've been flying the last several days; a few have been hanging out behind our place, we live 50 miles south of Yankton and 60 miles west of Sioux City.  It's been foggy and rainy so it's been hard to spot them in the sky, but we've been hearing them, we've had a southerly wind off and on this past week, but today it's out of the northwest.  Much of our snow has melted, but still more to go, with lots of standing water in the pastures/fields, some flooding concerns too, some of the country roads are experiencing some wash out, supposed to snow today but getting warmer Sunday and warming up.

There are fields with standing corn in the areas in SE South Dakota but the ones that will bring the geese in are the ones harvested in the last month. Just after the snow went down the ground was still frozen and it allowed quite a few people to finish harvesting. Those fields had quite a bit of corn that fell off due to wind and snow.

Thanks for the info......trying to plan ahead for a SD trip. Sounds like next week could be the time, warm weather coming and snow melting up here as well, probably lost nearly half of our snow, flood will be here sooner than expected. Thanks again.

I got some reports last week of 500,000 is Illinous. I heard they have moved into Nebraska as of 2 days ago. Im hoping the weather improves. Otherwise they might lift up and keep moving north like last year. Gonna be a miserable muddy hunt. Cant wait!!

If I was smart enought to figure out how to put a recording in a post I would.  My house backs up to a state wetlands area and the sound is literally deafing.  The SD boys will have no problem hunting snows next week.  The sky is black (with snow geese) in SE Nebraska.  Have fun!!

The sky is alive today with snows and specs, the "ribbons" of birds goes on and on.  Happy hunting.
