Thanks Kevin- Almost without a doubt I will need to be continuing my efforts trying to get as much done before the snow flies as the cold wet weather we been getting has added to delaying any progress! Now a couple things could change all this...#1) hittnig the lotto tonite #2) BAd weather down here and nicer weather up there could be an arm twister! What city are you going to be staying at??

I have got the truck packed and ready to go....its going to be a LONG day of work tommorow!!!!

I think the hunting is going to be tough, basically no corn has been harvested yet. Sounds like the weather is going to be decent this weekend though.

Good luck to everyone that is headed out to chase the roosters this weekend.

I took Snakey Jake and Satin and hunted them together last Sunday on a game farm and they were awesome Jake was pointing the birds from around 20 yards away and satin around 10 yards away. Jake has backed G-man before (garys shorthair) but it was more like stealing scent. This time Satin went on point and he was up wind around 30 yards away and seen her and he hit the brakes and went on point, man that was awesome... I just let them stay there for what seemed forever, but finally kicked the bird up and it flew high and over Jake, I shot and jake was steady as a rock, I sent Satin and he honored her, No e-collars were on and I was in awe,

one week away from SD and i am already having a hard time sleeping,,

Good luck to everyone coming to South Dakota. Weather should be great for the weekend. Hopefully weather stays dry until oh..lets say..the first of the year so everyone can get to harvesting. Its been a horrible farming fall. Less then 5% of the corn has been harvested in South Dakota and only 30% of the beans are out.

Anybody get out in SD last weekend? I talked to a buddy of mine up there and he said that the crops in his area were not out at all and with the wind he did not even bother to go!

I hunted around the Arlington, SD area. We hunted hard all weekend and had pretty tough luck. Basically all the crops are in yet, except the cattle farmers that have cut some silage. We did not have much luck finding the birds in grass, they were pretty much all out in the corn fields. Also found some birds that were were going for water in stock dams and sloughs with standing water in them.

I talked to some of my buddies that hunting near the Gregory, SD & Winner, SD areas. They said the bird numbers are pretty good out there, but also they are battling the crops. They all did very well but actually had to hunt for the birds. Usually in those areas they are done hunting in a couple hours, but they were all pretty much out hunting until dark.

I have also heard the closer to the river you are the dryer the weather has been and some farmers were in the fields this past weekend. So I think if you are in the Presho area you will have some good luck. The birds are there...just have to find them. If it ever stops raining and dries up the birds are going to be in the corn fields though. Especially since we are getting MORE RAIN AGAIN this week.

Good luck, we are going to head farther north this weekend and up in the Sisseton, SD area. That way we can get some good waterfowl hunting in the AM and bust some roosters in the afternoon. I have heard the waterfowl up in that area is out of control so I am looking forward to it. If I only had some dogs versatile to do them both!!! lol.

Can anyone tell me what is required to take a dog into SD. I give my dog his shots myself. I saved the labels off the bottles and dates. Is that OK or do I need to go to a vet.
