We supplied the shells for a group of hunters that shot about 290 shells to kill 36 birds. Yes they are all wild birds and they are tough this time of year but we were shooting 1 3/8 oz 4's. It wasnt the shells. We had over 35 roosters pointed (probably twice that in hens). One fella shot two boxes from one 25 foot area while blocking. I will say the birds were comming at him fast and fairly high. |

That is a lot of flying lead!!!!! Can't hit em if you aren’t pulling the trigger I guess. I bet the dogs were wondering what was going on if they were consistently missing them off of point. I don’t think there is anything more frustrating too the hunter and the dog than a perfectly pointed rooster with no retrieve at the end. I bet the group had a heck of a good time though, it’s impossible to shoot that much and not have fun. Are the birds still sitting fairly tight or are they grouping up and flying out at the sound of the truck doors closing?? I think we need a little more snow on the ground; the birds in our area are getting pretty wise to hunters by now. A little snow cover would sure help to make them dumb again. |

The birds that have been flushed numerous times are weary and it takea a good plan to get shooting at them. We usually leave places for our pre booked hunts however to ensure birds that hold. This was one of those spots. It was a 7 acre cattail slew with a few rows of corn and beans around it. Feeding into the cattails was a ten acre corn patch with 5 acres of wild sunflowers on each side of it. We set blockers around the slew and walked the corn and weeds into the slew. I dont know how to count birds when some are second flushes maybee thirds even but I am sure over 300 birds left the slew. One thing that amount of missed shots will cure is a young pup that wants to chase flying birds. They soon learn to watch for the fall. Boss went what seemed semi comatose on one point. We let him hold point just to see how long he would point while we shot other birds. (heck we had em surrounded) We figure he was there for 5 to 6 minutes. Goldy finally pinned a bird near him so we busted her bird then Bosses bird. He didnt even know it was gone. Goofey guy was tranced I guess. I got some pics on a throw away camera. If I can figure out the Wallmart disc I'll try to post some pics. |

On your computer go to pictures then click on one of them, go to file click (upper left hand corner of screen), under that is edit click,go to image click, then resize click, then horizontal put 25% then 25%vertical then click OK, then go to image again then click 75% Horizontal then 75% virtical and that should downsize the pic to put on the browse button on mesage attachments. |
