As we were hunting today 2 of us were walking a field 1/2 mile by mile, and I thought to myself....instead of hunting the whole field were would the birds be in this field? So we figured out were the food was across from it and then the shelter? So we decided on the north side of this section. There was another group in the field to the south hunting, we walked 1/4 mile up, by the road and made a circle were we thought they would be and missed our limit by 3, The other group of 6 didnt even fire a shot! So there is my Tip.......;.; Narrow down a big field to were the feed is, were they can easily get back to there cover, and have acess to better cover when it gets nasty!! Who is next with there tip?

Next Tip,,, When your duck hunting and the birds are not flying at that time, let your dog run around to let his body temperature stay normal, If you keep him at sit he will lose body heat quicker, also get a vest for him!

Next tip. A push activated under the counter light at a hardware store is a great addition to your blind bag. I superglued velcro to the back and bag to allow removal to change the batteries. Nice when you are digging in your bag in the dark, especially if you are looking for your flashlight.

When hunting linear cover with more than two people, drop the dogs off with a handler, drive both cars back to the other end, drop one off and drive the other back to do the hunt. When you finish two miles in one direction, it sure makes "going back" a lot easier.

When hunting a large section of upland cover, plan to hunt in kind of a figure eight..allowing for dogs to make deviations. This accomplishes a few goals 1) pushed birds get doubled back on, 2) it is usually something new to most educated birds and 3) you return to where you started without retracing your steps. Smaller figure eights and spiraling routes are effective at times, too.

Buy a pheasant call. With a little practice you can reproduce a "locating" sqauwk or startle a tight sitting rooster with a flushing cackle. Additionally, it is funny to watch the reaction of someone who doesn't know about it. Be ready to duck.

Use a gun, it easier than throwing a stick or rock... ;-)

#1 tip- Always save those almost used up rolls of TP- You know when there is like a 1/4" left on them- and carry one or two with you into the field. Thats the Happy Hunter tip of the day ;) heh

Next Tip! When putting on dog boots put Vetwrap on first then the boots then tape the boots on to the vetwrap instead of the dogs hair

Keskam, the Vetwrap is a great idea. I usually make one wrap with the athletic tape reversed (sticky side out) and then put the boot on. This helps hold the boot in place and prevents taping to the hair. Vetwrap would make that process easier.
Come the fall, we hunt 'em all.
