OK All:

I have been hinting to my wife for the last several weeks that an early birthday present for hunting season would be appropiate (a custom duck call). I think the idea is finally taking root, but am undecided what one to suggest. I am a definite beginner, so I have been looking at the double and triple reed calls...

Any thoughts?

Gene

I am more of the old fashioned (big river goose call) type, That goes for duck calls to, I have one of those short reed goose calls and my son can play a nice tune with it, but me... I sound like a goose with strep throat I think with a double or triple reed you better have a tape to go with it so you can drive your wife nuts practicing before the season. Then when she reads this she will think twice about buying it for you..

Try to get ahold of David Miller on here, or through Big R. He makes some awesome duck calls. I have two and really like them. I have a single reed and a triple reed. I had David make a double reed for a hunting buddy in Ohio as a thank you and it was all I could do to send it.... It is one of the nicest calls I have ever blown. My go to call is the triple reed I got from David. He will tune them for life and give calling lessons over the phone if needed. He is a great guy, is a Vetran and has been to Iraq and other places we never want to go protecting our freedoms. If you are interested I have his phone number and email address that I can PM you.

The best duck calls in my opinion are foiles or Big guys best. They both use the same inserts I believe. I also have one of Davids calls, it's a pretty good call.

The Last time I blew a duck call was to throw dead ducks at an APLA test...I don't think anyone noticed it had 11teen reeds and was gold plated!

Oh, and I am sure it sounded so sweet!!!!
My daughter has a hot pink double reed duck call from David as well. She used it to record my cell phone ring tone.
Everyone loves it and it sounds like no one elses phone. It is a mix of high balls and feeder calls. I love to watch peoples faces in stores and offices when it goes off. They always get a kick out of the fact that a 14 year old girl recorded it for her Dad.....

I use a custom call made by Greg Hood of southern Game calls. Each one is hand turned by Greg himself and are individually numbered and autographed by him. Its called the Black Widow. Comes in ivory or black color and has black widow spiders on it.

Does David have a website?? I would be more interested in checking his calls out. I am a big fan of unique and custom calls.

I know he used to, but I can't find it now.
The best thing to do is either call him, or email him and see what his current website is. The last I talked to him he was in the process of buying another call maker out.

I also have a few Hayes calls from Bob Hayes. He is another nice guy with some very nice working calls.

Cart,
Please post up some pictures of your calls. I am sure that others would like to see them and know your prices. I now have more duck calls than I know what to do with, but there is something about a beautiful wood call that makes me loose my rational thoughts.... Sound bites would be great to!

To get to Dave's new web site..... Go to  D.O.A. calls and google it.

Dave has bought DOA game calls and has taken over that name for his company.
