I HAVE THE ORIGINAL "THE POINTING LABRADOR" BOOK FROM PAUL AND JULIE KNUTSON. I WAS WONDERING IF JULIES NEW BOOK IS REVISED VERSION OR IS IT A WHOLE NEW BOOK. I WAS THINKING ABOUT GETTING IT AND JUST WAS WONDERING IF ANYONES HAS PURCHASED BOTH AND HAD ANY ADVISE OR THOUGHTS ON THE MATTER?

Actually, ther have been 3 (kinda 4) PL books by one or both of the Knutson's.
The new one is markedly different and markedly better than any of the others.

The "walk", use of happy bumpers, connection with the dog, state of mind towards training, patience, nature do its work, and washing the car for a year of someone who could show you how to correctly introduce and teach/perform handling fundamentals. She touches base the natural way...the way a dog understands and appreciates. Two thumbs up for Julie!!

I was just at one of Julie's seminars, and she said that she has changed her program over time as she learns. I am new to Julie's training book and style, but based on what I learned training my last dog, she is spot on with her program. I know when I get my next lab, that I will be using what I am learning on him.

Hi,

I see that it has been a couple of years sence someone asked about a video for pointing labs.  Has there been any new videos to come out?  I am going to be a first time dog owner in a few months and I have started to read Julie’s book.  I would love to see a video that uses the same methodology as her book does.  Does anyone know of any video that comes close and can recogmend?  Thanks,  Zach Malhiot

There are plenty of videos on pointing, just not on pointing labs. I have a feeling pl people originally learned quite a bit from other pointing breed books, video ect.
Be all you can be.

davewalkerdogs.com still has copies of the old Bill West video "Teaching Labs to Point" (mistitled, IMO). It deals ONLY with pointing in a dog that has some natural point and some descent "prey drive" for birds. It isn't listed on the website but you can get an email address there.

If your looking for DVD's on training the pointing lab check out www.poudrerivergundogs.com

There is going to be a whole series releasing soon. You can check out a trailer on their website. I have seen the force fetch and it is very cool.
