I thought I'd post this up as a separate item as some who are interested might not see the other comments from Ducky911 under Califirnia. I am pretty sure we have grounds available in Ione, CA for a fall test. The facility has a cafe, campsites, water and upland, birds, pretty much everything we'd need. Having never put on a test before I'll need help. And willing participants to bring dogs !!! If you have interest please reply and also let me know what level your dog might run. Let's make this happen ! |

Thinking about the end of Aug, first of September, possibly at Comanche Hills in Ione, CA Anyone who's sold a PL in or knows any PL owners in California, Oregon, Nevada, Idaho, Utah I'd really appreciate help spreading the word, I'd love to make this an event to remember ! |

What about breeders out there like Pete Morrill? That could get you some dog numbers since they have never had the opportunity to run a test in CA before. |

If I can't swing the time off for a spring test for Ruger that would work for me in the fall. He would run CPR and possibly APR. Pat

Hi STK, As an Idaho guy, I did a quick mapquest and Boise is 600 miles from Ione. Portland is 620. Seattle, 800. Salt Lake, 675. With gas at $3.50 plus, that will be a bit much in the time and $ column for me with 1 dog. I think it may be the same for many other amateurs from the population centers I listed, especially based on our current economy and fuel prices. Perhaps oneday we can have a centrally located PNW site somewhere between central OR and WA. (Sometimes the vastness of the West has drawbacks. ) Thank you for stepping up with the offer...I look forward to hearing the results of a wildly successful test next fall! Greg |

We have some good interest so far, we'll be working on dates and all the logistical stuff and keep everyone advised. I realize August/September in California may be warm (hot) but I'd hate to wait until spring 2013, just have to weigh the interest in a test vs. the weather vs. the opening of bird season. I will ask everyone to update your profiles under the Directory so we can get in touch with all of you. Those who aren't yet APLA members and may be reading this, send me your contact info!

STK, August will be HOT, in the 90s. Get the latest weekend in September that you can at the venue, and plan to have a few wading pools for the dogs to get wet in before they run upland. I don't think hunting season starts most places until October; some places start mid-Sept. |

Oh. Well, then, I was wrong. But I still think the end of August will be mighty hot....

The end of August would be really hot here, even Sept.A spring test would be alot easier on the dogs. August will be in the 100's more than likely. Just my 2 cents |

No title is worth putting dogs at risk. Doesn't sound like a good time of year for that location...... |

It's usually hot here in Sept but not that hot. Last fall test and at a others when the weather gets too warm, the judges adjusted for the heat, ten minutes/three birds and out etc. Some judges do it, some don't... I pulled my dog early a couple times even though one more bird was all we needed. Black dog/ northern dog, I have questioned those judges that would not make that adjustment a couple times too.

Shallow water in super hot weather can be fatal if the dog is in the water for longer periods. Moving water or water with deep areas close can be cooler. We go to the Missouri reservoirs when we can in July and Aug. |
