I am new to this site and just wanted to say hello.  I know some of you from the meeting with Mr. Osborn and was just given the site's address.  I have a Black Forest pup named Zoie and love to hunt.  I moved from San Diego to the Denver area and still learning the area.  If anyone is in need of a partner hit me up.

Hey Camelcluch,

Welcome to this site as well as Denver! I met you at the meeting last month. How old is your pup? Who is she out of?

I am always looking for new people to hunt with. However, I belong to a private upland club so unless your willing to pay to hunt, I'm kinda stuck there. Your welcome to join me any time though! Trout Bum mentioned you might be wanting to do some waterfowling. I have never done it before, but I'd like to try it sometime.

Maybe I'll see you at the meeting this month and we can discuss some options.

Rob

Keskam,

On an earlier post, there was mention of rekindling the already formed Rocky Mountain Pointing Lab club as a Colorado chapter of the APLA. An invitation was posted last month for an initial get together to discuss what common goals individuals might want to pursue with this club i.e. training groups, training days, competitions, etc.

Our second meeting to plan our first training day was scheduled to be this month on the 21st, but my wife just called and said that we got an email stating the date would need to be rescheduled.  If you are interested in attending the next meeting, let me know or contact Tom Osborne and he can email you the details of our next meeting.

Where is Great Guns? I didn't mean to imply that you needed to be a member to hunt where I do...I can bring as many guests out as I want. However, harvested birds must be paid for.

Rob

Rob,
I was not notified of the meeting. I will have to email Tom. As for hunting, I don't mind paying if it's good property. We will have to hook up. Waterfowl is always an option to me. It's a blast and can be addictive. My pup is 7 months and is out of Black Forest. Mom is Porsche and dad is Shadow Mountain's Brew. I just dropped Zoie off with Julie for training. Keskam, I might have to take you up on that hunt. I am always looking to hunt and just now learning good spots for birds. Thanks for the welcome guys!

I saw that litter after they were born. In fact Valhalla has some pictures of my kids playing with the pups on their website! How long is Zoie going to be gone? I'm sure you'll be excited to get her back.

As for the property I hunt...you wouldn't be disapointed. I'll not go into too much detail so I don't turn this thread into an advertisment, but if you'd like to send me an email at my home we can talk about setting something up.

Keskam,

That sounds great. Shoot me an email and we can discuss the particulars of your place or mine. The snow is still pretty deep where I go, but hopefully by Feb, it should melt off some.

Welcome to the site Jeff! Tom must not have your email address, though I sent it to him. Julie will do a great job with Joie. I'm pleased they postponed the meeting. With only two weeks left for ducks, I will be sitting in a blind on the 21st. Heading up Friday a.m. not sure when I will be coming home. If the snow and ducks keep flying I'll be up there as much as possible till it closes on the 30th. Zoie with a Chukar in my front yard in early November.

Just wanted to say "hi" to camelcluch" and the rest of you!  I am also a fairly new member, been lurking for a year.... but we also have a young pup from Black Forest (out of Sampson and Quiver).  Her name is Jinnie, and she'll be heading to Julie's place in May for some training herself.  I'd love to keep in touch to see how Zoie is doing!  My husband and I are hoping to attend the Northern Colorado group at Julie's in February (without the pup, too young - but it will be fun to watch and meet everyone!).

Keskam - I'll have to let my husband know about your gunclub as well.  He is the hunter, I'm just the runner in charge of keeping the dog in shape for hunting season

Stay warm everyone!

Welcome Shannon,

How old is Jinnie? You might consider bringing her along next month to the upland training day at Julie's. There should be a lot of knowledgable people there who might be able to advise you on her first exposure to birds.

My wife is a runner too. She helps tremendously with keeping Maverick in prime hunting condition year round! I don't know what I'd do without her taking him on his daily runs.

Joe, I dont think the water in Colorado is going to open up until march which gives us 1 month of water work before apla tests start!! We are going to have to cram for the tests! And there will probably be one foot of snow on the ground to. People with snowmobles are loving it they dont even have to go up to the mountains to use them.

The S. Platte is frozen solid in most places in the Brush and Ft Morgan area, which is not far from Julie and Paul's place. From what I hear, the last time that happened was 15 years ago. All of the reservoirs and lakes are frozen as well. I will be on a warm water slough tomorrow through Sunday, should be decent. Hard to say what it will be like in a month. There is a saying in CO. If you don't like the weather stick around it will change. Couple pics of the Platte taken early this week.

Rob, sorry it took me awhile - been busy with work and not checking out the forums!  Jinnie just turned 4-months old, so I'm not sure if that is an appropriate age to bring her or not?  Jinnie is a very high-energy pup and is going through obedience training right now.  She's quite sassy most of the time, but we're working on handling, etc. for that.  I'll bring her along with us (if we can still make it)!

If Jinnie hasn't had any exposure to birds yet, I think it would be a great time to get her out. There will be a lot of knowledgeble people there to help and it would be a great opportunity to see where you want her to go with her training. If you are really interested in attending you should send an email to Tom Osborne before the planning gets too far. Once they get commitments from people on ordering birds, it might be too late for this one. Even so, we still like to meet you guys (and Jinnie too).

I am going to speak with Julie and see if Zoie is ready to run yet. I can't believe the weather we are having. Rob, it may be a while before we can get out and hunt. -18 is crazy!! Shannon, sorry, I have no news for you on Zoie. She is at school with Julie. The last I heard she is doing well and likes to learn. Good to see more B.F. dogs. Good luck!!

I've got plans to go out on the 10th. Unless something catastrophic happens between now and then, I am going rain, sleet, snow or shine! I know the snow will still be deep and crusty (about 2 - 3' or so I hear), so I am going to bring my snowshoes along and try to stay on top of the snow! I'll probably make better progress than Maverick...who knows...maybe I'll point the birds for him for a change!!!
