Hunted pheasants in SD today with a man who has had an AB PL for nine years. He's a spaniel man and has no use for pointing dogs.  He only got this dog to retrieve ducks but succumbed to taking him hunting pheasants along with the AWS's he loves. From the start he complained to Stu West that the dog pointed too much and has been trying for most of that time to break him of pointing.  Last year he said he'd finally done it and the dog was hunting like an AWS.  But, alas, today I saw Dini point pheasants twice.  Guy swears he'll never have another PL.

That begs the obvious question, why did he get one in the first place if he didnt want a pointing lab? If youre primarily hunting wild roosters in heavy cover, a pointer is a distinct disadvantage.
