Troy Callahan has been saying this for some time and I thought I would post this up on here see if we get any response.

Anybody got some video of there pointing lab in the field? Pics are awesome I think the saying is "A picture says a thousand words "?.... I think a video could say a million about these wonderfull animals! Thought it would be great for people that visit this site that are not PL people or owners can see what they are about ... I dont think we need to verify what litter they are from or anything like that but I think it would be good to show videos of these dogs pointing at young ages as well as older ages showing that its not a "trained" action. Anyone else want to chime in on this ? Maybe some videos or retriever work as well...showing how versatile they are!

I really think TC has something with this IDEA!!!!

I think it would be good for the videos to be some proof these dogs do point...a wow kinda thing.

I also think it would be a great thing to put together for the APLA booth at any shows we do such as the national Pheasant Fest.

Comments ?? sugestions ??

This is a great idea. I can tell you from being at the PF booth a couple of years, that video running on a PC at our booth gets more recognition than any other thing we can do. It pulls people over to watch and talk about PL's.

Great start ... I was thinking of getting some video submitted and then someone can compile the footage we want to use to show these dogs off at shows and things like that ...

Yes not all video is created equally ...but I think we can all make our own judgements on that right ??

I think it's alittle more complex than that Troy.

"WE" are a small (maybe some a bit jaded/kennel blind) part of the concerns. I am just going by what I've seen in photos and vids (which ain't much because of dial up).

Hopeful that there are much better ones than I have seen, heck there has to be.

Complex.... I didnt mean for this to get COMPLEX.... if you have some video that you consider to be a good represenative of these dogs submit it to here talk to someone about sending it to somebody to review to make it onto a real for PF or some other sort of show that the APLA may attend.

Not sure if this"ll work here...my dog at I think 14 weeks old. It's not very good, but it does show a pup pointing "out of the box", although he's not holding it long. I think the little "SPROING" in his tail at the end is hilarious. Personally, never having had the pleasure of seeing very many PL's work, and without anything resembling a network of PL people around me, I am starving for motivation, inspiration, etc. I was really hoping to see some video from the PL vs pointer thing last summer too. Frankly, I'd love to see some well-done video of some of the "cream of the crop" just to have an idea of what people who are 1000 miles away are talking about, context, you know? I'm really surprised more breeders don't have decent video of their dogs in action...part of it is certainly because it's REALLY HARD to shoot good video. I've looked and looked and 98% of what's out there (including my own) is pretty, um, difficult...and the rest shows dogs pointing from 6 inches off the bird, really lame-looking points (not at all intense, tail-wagging, head moving, creeping, etc) or other stuff that doesn't really show PL's in a very good light.

Read Daves Last line. There someone else said it. So I don't have to again point out what should be obvious.

I have some nice videos of pointing labs working and training for those that are interested. Several things in the works as well. One will be something that has needed to be done for quite some time.
