I'll have to get you some updated pictures of Kristi, his sister. She is in training right now.

Those are awesome pictures, that boy has some go to him!

I just spoke with Wendy, they are repeating that "Trixie & Churchill" litter and I can't wait to get my pup.

Those pictures are encouraging, I like the enthusiasm.

Spectacular for sure. Storm's entry made my hair stand on end.

I trained an "easy" command after visiting Mike Gould who watched him and then told of his dog speared by a branch stab hiding in the water at a hunt test. The dog survived, Mike took the blame but sure had unkind words for that HT marshall!

Impressive entry --- as long as they are 100% sure there is nothing underwater that could stab the dog .

Big Air scares the crap out of me.  I've seen three dogs stabbed or cut (one died) and have heard of many more that got severely injured because of Big Air.

We always try to slow our dogs down so that they don't even think about a big entry.

I suppose that's fine -- as long as they never train or hunt in waters that they don't know.

Sort of a PS:

Dogs with such extreme "drive" and desire to get the bird offer certain 'challenges' for steadiness training. They also provide opportunity to be innovative in one's training approach - especially for those of us who are interested in 'moulding' the dog rather than dominating it. I developed an essentially infallible "remote sit" in one dog without ever using an ecollar or any direct aversives. I call the process "Motivational Training" and wrote a rather disjoint and incomplete discription on the 'pointingdogs' group a while back.

Kenai often hunts off a tree stand in a large beaver pond.  I have to use the same tree every year because I spent about an hour cleaning out all of the dangerous brush from his launch area.  He is a big air dog and I do worry a lot about him being impaled by one of nature's punji sticks.  I use a very small stand so that he can't get as much air as he otherwise could.  Now I only have to worry when he climbs out on a log on his way to a downed duck.  He seems to enter much more gently in the middle of a retrieve than he does at the beginning.

It is cool to see a dog with that drive. Especially in training on familiar water.

I also had a friend that lost a nice little black lab girl to a hard water entry where there was unknown submerged rebar.

Another thing to consider. I bought a neoprene vest with the kevlar chest and abdomen area. Cody had a hard water entry when he was young but it turned into a much more controlled entry as he aged and hunt experience increased. I now use the vest on Cruz. Gives me some piece of mind.

Brad - I see you have the "CH" on the title already   I enjoyed watching Kenai this weekend.  He had a nice run on Sunday to title.  Congratulations.
