I am just wondering how other people wein their pups? I am always looking for good ideas. It seems ot me that all breeders do it a little bit different . All input is welcome. I have a litter that is 4 weeks old today, I am starting them on puppy food as I am typing.

Thanks,
Steve Nelson

I try to go 4 weeks if they can, you can tell if the mom can keep up with the pups, she is usually around 6 to 8 cups a day around then and still cant keep up, we put water in the puppy food and let it set and get mushy to begin with, and also start setting out water at around 3 weeks.

Don't know if you're still looking for thoughts but here's mine:  At approx 4 weeks I start my litters on puppy chow, hot water and goats milk.  I do it in the blender so it's mush.  They eat the heck out of it and love the goat's milk which is very good for them and doesn't cause stomach upset.   Of course they're still on their mother as well.   I gradually blend less and less to get bigger chunks over the next couple of weeks (still warming it with water and milk) until by week 7 they're on straight dry food.   Our pups are always nice and round and healthy and never unhappy about mama deciding she's had enough.   Oh, I let her make that decision as to when she's had enough of them, I don't have a set time when I'll take her away and pen her up, that's up to her.    Good luck with your litter!
