I don't know about the rest of you, but I am aware of a number of stories with dog folks going through some tough times with either life situations or the economy.  I wonder if it might be of some value to have a thread or a spot on this website for people to post dogs they may need to place or equipment they might like to sell (or buy if available).  There might be all kinds of ways to help someone who needs it, maybe there are way better ideas than I have posted here.  Even job type stuff. Any thoughts on ways to help?  Seems like a pretty rough time all over the place - be cool to do something to help.  No judgments, no lectures, just help.

Julie....I think that is a great idea.  I could not pull off another lab in the house at this point in time but I am certain there is gear that I will be purchasing.  I would rather buy the gear from someone who is having a tough time rather than at a sporting goods store where the guy behind the counter probably can't tell me how to use it properly anyway.

I agree! I am new to the game and thus will need all the training supplies I can get. I also can't fit another dog in my house, but might be able to help in other ways. It wouldn't hurt to have a permanent thread for this purpose!

Great IDEA JULIE!

Let's make this the thread. I am in the market for a couple of wingers with electronic releases. I have a twice-used Dogtra 2000 e-collar with a beeper-complete, in the case, basically brand new. Sell or trade...

Watch the Retriever Training Forum (RTF) for threads about coupons, sales and specials. There are a couple of people who post pretty regularly with some great deals-often for dog food.

I have gotten to know several commercial guides over the past few years. No guarantees, but if you are looking to place a dog and want to send me the information, I would pass it on. Most of them are GSP guys, but some use labs, and several have been interested in finding out more about pointing labs after hunting with Churchill. Another thought I had about placing dogs is the HRC youth program. There must be lots of kids who don't get selected to receive a puppy that could give a good home to a dog.

Hi, my name is Steve. Both me and my wife work for a screen printing and embrodery company and recently have had our hours cut. I am trying to strum up bissiness for the company I am working for. They have been good to us and feel terrible about having to cut hours... I am not looking for pitty cause I know there are worse cases out there than our's. I am just saying if anybody is looking for some cloting or hats for their kennel or work place give us a try. We do fantastic work and are very proud of the company we work for. If you want more info or contact info feel free to pm or email me.

I have some dogs I am looking for homes for, I have already found a 2nd chance for one of my dogs. I do have a golden retriever that is 9 years old that can still hunt, just not that hard. I would love to find him a home with someone on a farm that hunts a little but not to serious. He does not point but he will find them!!!!

I also have a 870 remington for sale, 26 inch barrel and 2 3/4 3" synthetic stock great 2nd gun.

Thanks for your time!!!

What Julie is trying to say is there a few of us who have fought the battle but lost.. I will be loosing my home in the next couple of days..I would like to think that I have done everything I could to not make this happen.. but obviously I didnt do what I had to do...when there is no work.. there is no work..

I hope the time I have spent with the APLA has been benifical to the APLA and the little guy..

With that said... good bye

I have never met you Stuw, but I'm so sorry to hear about your home. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sure you did everything you could. Keep your head up and stay as positive as possible. It will get better. I beleive that all that happens is planned, we just don't know exactly what that plan is....

Stu,
I am so sorry to hear your bad news. Rough times are tough. I hope and pray that you rebound from this quickly.

Things out here in Oregon are really tight. Unemployment in our County is over 13%, there have been two rounds of cuts that I have survived, we have lost our 401k match and 20% of our vacation time trying to keep the Company healthy. The next year or two is going to take a toll on Forest Products Companies and many other companies.

Kerry and I are luckier than many, we may be upside down in our mortgage, but are not at risk at loosing our house... Our vehicles are paid for and we have some savings. We sure hope things turn around soon for everyones sake.

Hang in there Stu.
